2nd time installing Epic Fail - Portrait mode / screwed up display detection

if anyone is around later today, I've got a weird case. My Ayaneo NExt Lite installed Bazzite perfectly. but It wasn't a large partition. So decided to pretty much clear out the rest of the windows partition, and clear the bazzite partition, install windows and drivers again, then create a much larger partition to install bazzite to. Upon 2nd time installing, the screen didn't snap into landscape during the initial scripts like it did the first time. The first time I had it installed, it was detected in desktop and game mode as a landscape display. no issues. second time it was installed, the whole process of installing remained in portrait mode, and Instead, it only changed to landscape once the game mode / steam was displaying. but when I went to the desktop mode, the orientation was opposite of what the os thought. and that meant I had to configure the display to be upside down and sideways to display properly. icons and taskbar showed opposite of the main display too. None of this happened the first time I installed. I'd used it for a few days and it was perfect. I just wanted more space because this was going to be a perfect setup for my son to use in docked mode for his gaming on steam. This new install is a disaster. reinstalling doesn't fix the orientation. It always installs portrait the whole time now, and it's clear something that happened last time didn't happen this time. I'm off to a movie to relax and get my mind of things. Will be on later to report any kind of progress. I'm thinking maybe my gyro drivers are f***Ed but according to the small windows partition I have left, device manager shows up to date drivers on the Gyro.

wait- went to configure Gyro the first time, and there's one more driver to install... #hope nvm didn't help anything

I can't speak for the Ayaneo as I don't have one, so I can't confirm this. But if you open Hand held daemon do you have the option to select a different controller emulation that supports Gyro?

Both Steam controller and Dualsense controller have gyro support.

the issue is the display and the orientation that is detected from the initial install boot script, before any splash screen. It switched automatically the first time I installed it. but I deleted it and started over for more space a few days later, and during that new install, It never changed, and the whole OS detected a portrait display but it showed as flipped upside down, all kinds of problems. The game mode reverted to the correct orientation but that's not the point. Why wouldn't it detect it the second time? Do these Bazzite installers rely on existing drivers set up by windows, or certain bios settings?

bazzite installer is iffy, we add orientation corrections manually and we did them manually for the lite the kernel and quirks used for the OS are different for secure boot support the stock fedora kernel is used for the installer

yeah it sure is. I can tell something was auto corrected when installing. I suppose the second time it used a different kernel or acorn 😛 - honestly no idea. What I do know is that I just wiped everything and just decided to proceed. Sounds like others were having the same thing happen and they ended up fine. plus I'm really only using it in dock mode once it's finished. Can you confirm; Is the icons and taskbar in desktop mode supposed to be showing if you have only 1 screen? The thing that made me think things were messed up was because I had to tell the desktop OS that my native screen was upside down, and because the icons and taskbar only showed up when i had both monitor and ayaneo screen on at the same time, and they'd only be on the non-primary monitor. Makes no sense to me. Plus they should be snapping over to being visible when I select the external monitor and disable the ayaneo screen, so that's really the only gripe I had. But since it was perfect the first time installing -god it was nice - I just wanted to throw this against the wall when it acted like it suffered an brain seisure the second time being installed. Fedora shows up like 2 extra times in my Ayaneo boot menu screen now. Both just end up in Scrub 2.1 command prompt...anyways. I'm sticking it out. F*** it, right? I've got it in ROG ally too and love it.

I don't suppose there's a way to get the screen recognized correctly after install? I dunno maybe that'll make it worse. Any way I can provide you the Kernel info I was using when I re-installed? - hey sorry one more question, if I have a 1 tb micro sd card and I want to access steam games on it from Bazzite and when I insert into a pc, is there a format or order I should use to ensure it can go on both?

what do you want to have on that sd card i still dont understand whats wrong with the display yes the autorotation script can get it wrong, especially if we rotate the display in the kernel but disabling the autorotation will work

disabling auto rotation? no idea what you mean. I can do that in windows. In Linux desktop mode or whatever comes with bazzite, I have to go into orientation, and select manual and tell it I want to have it in 90 degree counter-clockwise orientation mode for the screen to actually display as normal landscape. There's no gyro detected or any kind of auto rotate orientation ability. I was in the display menu a while. actually just got the gyro to work, and when the ayaneo is held normally, the screen looks turned 90 degrees

Yes There's this "bug" where we tell the kernel to rotate the display but the gyro is not rotated

thats unfortunate. It seems as though it worked as intended the first time. any fix for it afterwards? someone on reddit said: it sounds like your screen orientation isn't being detected automatically, you probably can manually workaround it by adding the karg: sudo rpm-ostree kargs --append-if-missing video=eDP-1:panel_orientation=left_side_up change the left_side_up accordingly for your device. Happy to report that Game mode runs perfectly. It's docked at the moment, downloading about 500gb worth of the steam library. Kid is happy. thanks for the help @antheas quick question. Does the install package iso change depending on what you select from the drop downs in the download selection on Bazzite's website? Also, were there significant changes or updated ISO's uploaded to the site on friday, Nov 1st? just curious.

Yes the install ISO changes depending on the selections in the wizard. It chooses between the deck and desktop image, the desktop environment and some custom images for Asus hardware
