Oversized indigo t shirts
I'm interested in indigo t shirts which will take on some beautiful characterful lightening as they are washed- I've got some by 3sixteen but they are too small/ slim fit. Does anyone know of any nice oversized indigo t shirts which look like they will fade (or already are faded a bit).
Heavy weight fabric would also be great
I quickly found this but don't know much about their shirts https://www.houseofblanks.com/collections/t-shirts/products/1012-heavyweight-relaxed-fit-t-shirt-washedindigo?variant=48877919371554

just for reference here is a shot of a worn in indigo shirt by 3sixteen, taken from their website. Its a lovely fabric
I was thinking of just buying a few sizes up and cropping but I fear the sleeve length (short) won't work out well
Actual question have you dig through yjp
no
I feel like there’s tons of indigo stuff there but ymmv massively wrt sizing
I'm a huge fan of tezomeya t shirts. They are not really "heavyweight", but they are one of the best when it comes to natural dyes (including their indigo), and they wear and fade beautifully. I have a handful of them and I always grab a few as gifts for friends whenever I go to japan
I normally wear a size large or XL in t-shirts, and their US Large shirt is nicely oversized and fits closer to a standard US XL in my opinion
**not cropped at all though so you have to be cool with a tuck situation
Another option - it's super easy to do your own indigo dye and might be worth looking at
I grow and process my own indigo, but there are some good dye kits from canoe club and other places that are pretty foolproof
this is a good idea thanks
sounds badass
You don't have to be like me, but the canoe club kits are cool and easy
Plus once you have the dye bath going, you want to throw all your ratty whites and rags in it and it's dope
Blue Blue Japan. I also got a really good kapital one with distressing and sashiko stitching on yjp for like £20.
i gotta find more kapital gauze ts theyre so good its insane
casually dropping this lore is insane
Would love to hear more in the diy thread or smth
My point is only that it is way easier than you might think! I only grew it because I have a small herb garden and thought it would be a fun project, but you can get the same effect from buying processed indigo. Swear anyone here could easily do it themselves if they wanted to
I want to do another batch in spring with some boxier clothes, but this was a De Bonne Facture overshirt thing that I bought for cheap and never liked it in white. Easy dye and made it way more wearable
Don't want to derail this any further though but just a valid option for anyone looking for indigo shirts in general!
How wash fast (what’s the term?) is it?
For natural indigo dyes in general - in my experience they lose a TON of color on first wash and then persist pretty well from there
Most indigo products you buy have already been rinsed/washed and some have been dyed multiple times to resist that process
This one has looked like this for about two years of casual wear without any crazy loss of color
I might toss it in my next dye bath to make it even darker too
