Laundry Survey. When to hand wash?

Wanted to ask everyone what they feel comfortable tossing through the dryer, the machine, or only ever hand washing? How much credence to you give to the care tag. Is there a certain fabric that you’d always hand wash etc etc

I’m always cold cycle high dry unless it’s hand wash or dry clean only 💀

if it's says hand wash only I do it. I also hand wash 'dry clean/only' wool clothing unless it has some kind of lining

Hmmm I don’t have in unit laundry and am cursed with ancient top loaders. Which I think is the source of some of my anxiety But it does have a delicates setting

Ahh if it's shared top loaders I wouldn't fuck around - too easy to get someone who used a shitload of bleach prior to u and u get hit with residue stains

Yeah I would be doing more hand washing if we didn’t have our own quite nice side load that I know no one uses bleach in

Yeah I had some dead stock OG 107’s from the 50’s that have some subtle bleached out spots on them now and honestly it’s rlly scarred me

I've only run into trouble machine washing with very fine fuzzy low gauge knits (usually hair fibers like alpaca and cashmere) and hardy British heritage wool that was also extremely fuzzy. Both felted and shrank in the wash. I just hand wash those now. If you plan on handwashing often, I'd invest in a spin dryer or a laundry wringer. Everything else goes on cold delicate cycle in garment bags Silk, artificial silks, blends, wool, alpaca, cashmere, angora (both rabbit and goat), bast fibers (linen, ramie, etc), fine cottons, etc. If you have the cash, I'd probably dry clean fine silks since they get a bit fuzzy in the wash. Bonded fabrics tend to not do well in the wash too, like some wool coats and most suits. Wouldn't mess around with those; get them dry cleaned. They all get air dryed.

Haven't felt the need to do this but if you want to be extra careful you can roll and pin them: https://youtu.be/JrdZY-Cxppg?si=59KGloK0iAOatp9e&t=316

no idea if that's good for clothing but I always cold wash everything and hang to dry unless I need still the clothes today or if there are more clothes than space in the clothesline hand-wash is hand-wash

i hand-wash anything tagged as such (as of now it's my one silk shirt) plus knits and things like ties and handkerchiefs most other things are cold wash + dry low x2 (this is largely a concession to mr zeo, i usually take my stuff about after one run)
