Issue with GPD Win 4 Sleep
Last time i installed bazzite my gpd win 4 woke up from sleep and almost fried itself in my bag. Is the Issue fixed already? I want to install Bazzite again but im scared of it happening again.

Wasn't an issue on the win 4 from what I know
And is not fixed for that reason
Did you press random buttons while having it in your bag?
Nope not at all
This guy had the same problem
I will be looking into the win 4 more soon
Thanks
Ok my win 4 woke up today
Have you found out why it does that?
yes, the fix will take a bit though
its a messy kernel bug
+ GPD weirdness
same as GPD Win Max 2
Damn
So most likely not with the next bazzite update?
most likely not
i dont know how to do the kernel fix
GPD users are working on a workaround script in the GPD discord
So it seems i must wait longer to install bazzite
yeah if you want it to work OOTB
The official one or the one from Phawx?
official, dunno about the other one
@antheas just a quick question, does the wakeup also happen in hibernate?
Or is only sleep affected?
the wakeup happens so the device can hibernate
so no it does not happen during hibernate
So i can use it without worries if i always hibernate?
Can i change the function of the power button so that it always hibernates?
i think bazzite doesn't support hibernate, if i'm remembering right

Damn
So i guess i really need to keep using w11
Damnit
correct, fedora as a whole does not support it.
That sucks for me
yeah, the suspend issue affects newer GPD Win 4 and WM2 models
the older 6800u models are unaffected
and the win mini also seems unaffected
the experimental workaround script is also only for the WM2, since it's based on detecting if the lid is closed
Ye already saw that. Man i am so ready to switch to Bazzite because im tired of windows fucking around
in this case, the proper fix is for GPD to release a fix
but eh, doubt it's going to happen anytime soon
I think so too, i really regret buying an gpd win 4 right now
in hindsight, i lucked out by getting the 6800u win 4
you might have better luck with a gamescope-session distro that can support hibernate
Any recommendations?
other options out there are ChimeraOS, SteamFork, Nobara Deck Edition, Cachy Handheld edition, etc
I usually recommend against Nobara or Cachy unless you're familiar with Linux and troubleshooting
Nobara and Cachy are traditional mutable distros, so you need to be comfortable with troubleshooting issues for that
but mutable distros will also give you the most control, which you might need for enabling hibernation
What would you recommend?
Cachy or nobara?
err, well out of the two, I've personally only tried Nobara.
...and I'm currently on Bazzite, which should tell you what I prefer 😅
Nobara's not bad, but the Nobara "team" is bascally just one guy. There's only so much the dev can do solo, which is why I said you need to be comfortable with troubleshooting any issues you encounter
FeelsBadMan for me
tbh I'd say ask around in each distro's discord, and see if it's even possible to enable hibernation
Will do
for all we know, you might only have one choice 😅
Nobara has it, atleast in the installer it can create a swap for hibernation
you can enable hibernation on bazzite
you just have to do it manually
Wait really?
and then fight with the steam sleep thing
kyle and hikari both say otherwise
its the same in all distros
kyle does not recommend it it doesnt mean you cant do it
hibernation on linux is a mess in general
its not like youll install nobara and it will become easy
i mean, setting up hibernation on nobara will probably still be easier than on bazzite
like 10% easir
then you have to deal with other difficult stuff
oh yeah btrfs hibernation is also tougher
keeping hibernation enabled is also more maintainable long term on nobara
why whats the difference
its the same swap file
the same fstab
hrm, i thought there was a deeper technical reason for it not being supported on fedora atomic
but if that's it, then perhaps not.
kyle often mentioned securiity issues and ostree not supporting it or something
yes early lockdown
its been disabled since april
Is it hard to enable hibernation?
well, tbh even if you enable it, i suspect you'll run into issues
God damnit
Man i just want linux on my device xD
like, you can try it. i just don't know how well it works for gaming
Im so close to fully switching to linux, but that problem is really my only one
oh yeah, i get it. that'd be a dealbreaker for me if I had known about it
Sorry if im a bit annoying, but man is it a dealbreaker
nah, I completely understand
this sort of issue is why I swore to never buy ayaneo again
it is a dealbreaker and i cant promise you the solution next month due to some traveling i will be doing
No problem, i can wait
Maybe someday i can fully switch to linux
this is assuming it's fixable via a workaround
but yeah, for now it sounds like windows might be better for ya
it is
and no half ass fixes this time
or you can attempt hibernation and see what happens
just like the ally sleep
its getting fixed properly
Well im not well versed in linux, so i dont think if i should do that
im currently researching adaptive hibernate in windows
its a very complex topic
Thank you so much for your work btw
and has very little documentation too
And you too @Aru for the help
If i try to enable hibernation, are there any pointers you guys can give to me?
yea, i know how to do it i will just warn you its not something thats exactly easy and if you do it it would be better to setup a swap partition
when you install bazzite
if you do that its actually not that difficult
Well i would to install it fresh anyways
when you do that, setup a swap partition that is your ram + 2gb
that way you get to skip the btrfs swap fun
(not fun)
In what format should the swap file be?
XD
i think its called swap
Alrighty
theres a good chance the installer will do it for you
Will take a look tomorrow ^^
we actually want to do hibernation on bazzite but what to do first you know
priorities
that's news to me. i thought hibernation wasn't going to be supported because upstream doesn't support it.
in april
kyle changed his mind around july
I'd like to look into it
no guarantees
Thanks

Sorry for asking, but isnt that the problem i have?
It seems it could be fixed with smokeless
But im kinda scared of f*cking it up lol
No
It cant
Ayaneo devices don't have sleep
That's why you need to do that
Sadge
I asked gpd today and my win 4 is fixed and with me
I plan to look into it a lot more the next few days
Bummer, thanks for the fast answer though!
Thats really nice 😄
Looking forward to it
Thank you so much mate
If you get it fixed i will donate to bazzite
If it is possible
