Brightness issue on laptop
I have a Lenovo ideapad gaming 3 and the brightness bar from kde plasma never worked. Like i was able to set any value, but it was always on 100%. This wasnt much of problem until it just drop to 0% and the laptom monitor is barely visible and almost unusable. I also tried this command which doesnt do anything too xrandr --output eDP-1 --brightness 1

that command will stop working in a few weeks and im guessing youre on x11 since xrandr worked.
in F41 x11 will be removed (upstream change) so maybe the brightness slider will work for you in wayland
i have no idea if xrandr ever worked, i just had my laptop on full brightness and never cared, but on 0% brightness, it is an issue. I am on wayland since i was forced to be on it, but the brightness bar never worked on x11 either
guess its using a non standard interface for the brightness then
also for some reason this ui became super unresponsive, when i click anything i have to wait for 3-5 seconds for it to display thing like the calendar etc, i think my instalation is just broken somehow. Not to mention problems with IntelliJ which might be unrelated to bazzite at all, idk
its a lenovo laptop π€·ββοΈ . Only time i remember the brightness working was on garuda linux, but only with a command (i dont remember which command or package it was), the bar was always broken for me on any distro
no idea what causes that but you can try alt+f2 and type
plasmashell --replace
which will restart the shellALT+F2!
run it in the terminal and you get issues
oh nvm i wrote wrong the first time, why the heck did i write ctrl π€¦
okay, i did it with alt
it restarted, but it still unresponsive
i guess i will back up my data on a external drive and do a reinstal
ok then i dont know whats wrong with your system, has it always been like that?
nope, just today
would be interesting to see a journalctl
journalctl -b 0 | fpaste
cant guarantee it will solve anything as its the first i hear of this, it was an issue long ago with older nvidia drivers that the panel would freeze so people just had the plasmashell command ready but that was loooong ago
am gonna try rebooting one more time, sometimes issues go away after reboots
before i do that maybe is should point out that when doing the plasmashell --replace, it does a few errors
i dont know if its normal or if its bad
yeah it does because it crashes the running instance
i dont know much about the inner workings of the DEs
an easy test for you though would be to make a new user and log in with that and see if that can replicate the issue
because that way you can see if its a system level issue (issue from upstream) or if its a config issue in your home folder
as i dont see much that stands in the log
okay i did a reboot right now (did many more before writing here) and brightness is fixed on 100% (the bar still doesnt work, but thats no problem) and the responsivity is back to normal
fuck these random issues that fix them selves after several reboots
no matter what hardware or OS i have, i always get random issues, that fix them selves after reboots or some time.
im gonna make a blind guess
nvidia gpu?
yep
i must be psychic π
but ive had random issues on windows too
and nvidia should work with windows better
true
its just me
me being able to break anything
mostly accidentally
but nvidia optimus (laptops with intel igpu+nvidia) complicates the stack a lot
so weird issues on both systems is a given
mostly on linux though
before this laptop, i had a desktop pc with windows
and there were so many random issues
nvidia has issues we cannot replicate on amd systems as the issue is often caused by the driver
that just went away over time, sometimes came back
i have amd processor with amd integrated graphics card and nvidia rtx 3050-ti
well i meant igpu+nvidia, i wrote intel out of habit
oh, okay
