Insights from MFAD Discord - Topic of the day 10/23/24
The #fashion-guides section has been streamlined and modernized and with it, now includes selected posts and threads from the MFAD Discord that have been particularly insightful. What other posts or threads do you feel should be included and why? (please include a link) Is there thread with a satisfying answer to a problem you experienced, or some beneficial bolt of wisdom, or an interesting and thought-provoking perspective on fashion (or how we relate to fashion)? Take a look in the #fashion-guides for examples then let your thoughts be heard here. (linking a thread is not a guarantee that it will be added, but it is greatly appreciated 👍 )

Might be good to pick someone who needed a suit for a wedding snd got good answers
Some kind of wardrobe overhaul flowchart maybe?
Idk sometimes like wardrobe overhaul question gets asked without showing what they like that kinda thing
If someone wants to have their journey in here highlighted that would be a fun piece

a long thread but worthwhile imo, as @bishopcorrigan @adaptation and quite a few other people engage with a user (eventually users) about how fit is a relative sense, defining one's motivations for how to dress a certain way, and even what is good vs bad advice; you get to see someone's mindshift change through the course of the thread
Totd suggestion style progression thread
I think the overall takeaway for me is seeing how fashion function as an facet of someone's life, rather than on reddit where we tend to see fits in a vacuum without necessarily getting to know the posters ,
Would offer https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1223394786141278258 and https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1264830040395354143 but it's just the general function of discord and IM fostering a more intimate space
Reddit posts like how to breathe and a fit a week, already in #fashion-guides, are exemplary bc they have the personal touch that prescriptive advice/guides left and also offers a overarching narrative for you to understand how they conceptualize things
Or to put it in another way the discord makes interacting with fashion more accessible and diverse without needing to necessarily consume
While people will continue to moan the loss of reddit or the limitations of discord, I think the floor is much much lower. I think everything is more compressed within discord in a good way and there's a more human quality when you can immediately speak to someone and see all their personalizations on discord. There's legit reasons not to utilize discord like personal preference but the most outspoken people (on reddit) are not actually putting in the effort to me
similar in vein to egg's recommendations (which: thanks!) is this from Elvander https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1248233800757018634. I think a lot of people get hung up on the "what do I do after I download a bunch of pictures from #waywt and #inspiration and IG?") and this really highlights translating inspiration into a fit, thinking critically about why it does or does not work, and adjusting or adapting to find something that is satisfying
i think some of the lively topics of the day - https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1250117343493754963, https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1260264203332092018, https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1230186012093976636, https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1262076143973175418 - are helpful in that people are actively engaging with people with different perspectives in service of their opinions (respectfully), which gets lost on other platforms
This is the funniest message in mfad history imo
