Finding inspiration....
I've gotten the impression from many of the regulars finding inspiration is an important piece, particularly when one is first learning. I wasn't really able to find any good explanations of what it meant or even just logistically the best way to do it. I am also someone who barely has a FB account and has generally tried to minimize his social media engagement.
I'm basically downloading random stuff I like from the web, Google images, etc. with limited organization. I did get Pinterest but I find it's interface clunky af. In some cases I have a starting piece to work off and I include that in search terms to guide things.
.....am I doing this right?
What platforms do you use?
What kinda of search terms will you use? How specific/general do you get?
How do you save and organize things?
Do you scaffold off specific pieces or is it more a gestalt you go after? Or does it depend on the context and what you are trying to achieve?
Thanks in advance!

subreddit best ofs, runways, lookbooks for different designers

The 3 inspo albums pinned here https://www.reddit.com/user/malti001/
#inspiration
It is unfortunately entirely dependent on what you’re looking for
Designers you like are a good place to start, I’ve found things like “tan overcoat inspo men” doesn’t really do what I want it to in Google
We (mods/community) gotta fuckin collate inspo somehow

Yeah "man wearing blue shirt" kinda stuff was not exactly getting me very far🤣 I am mostly looking for the basics and generic millennial business casual/casual stuff so it shouldnt be hard to find in theory.
Unfortunate answer re Pinterest is I have pinned like >1000 things so the algorithm is ok for me
I think I also struggle because a lot I end up finding from designers is understandably very forward or in the current style (loose/baggy) which I'm just not into.
That’s fine there are 200 designers doing normal shit well
Maybe I just need to use these more to give the algorithms time to converge.
I think it learns I am interested in fashion, starts sending me people in garbage bags covered in peacock feathers because it's the "hot new thing" and I give up and switch before it learns I actually just want office worker dudes wearing shirts that fit.
polo Ralph Lauren, Alden, Allen Edmonds, paraboots, Scott fraser collection, engineered garments, banana republic, brooks brothers, RRL, Ralph Lauren purple label, Brunello cucinelli, wythe, aime leon dore, thom browne, drakes, ymc, beams, corridor, Portuguese flannel, Todd Snyder, maybe Evan kinori, comme des garçons homme deux (i think this is the normal one), lemaire
The last 3 options + maybe ALD and thom you can ignore
but those brands + lookbooks for them + runways + lookbooks for their stockists + styling from their stockists + similar brands from their stockists
May be a good starting place
Shit even cos
If you like something someone’s wearing in #waywt just ask them what it is and you’ll get another datapoint
Just the term "lookbook" is super helpful. Had never heard it before. Do designers normally archive the ones from prior years or are they readily available?
No consistent answer to that unfortunately
Google + vogue + firstlook + archive.pdf + way back machine + Reddit + styleforum
The first link I shared has a bunch of links to archived scanned fashion stuff
This has been immensely helpful. Thank you!!!
Also zegna
More conventional menswear isn’t super my thing so I’m definitely forgetting one billion brands
Good luck!!!
my ig algo isn't consistently tuned but if i start engaging fashion content i'll start hitting stuff i like
i would fav posts w/ nice fits and then check back on their profile later and see what's up
I once told a customer that their jacket was cool and asked if I could take a photo for my personal inspiration album.
