Secondhand Penny Loafers brands/things to look for
Hey everyone,
I'm looking to buy some secondhand penny loafers in either black or dark brown. I've searched through some Q and A posts on here previously to try and get a sense of some brands I can look for and some tips, but I wanted to get direct advice/feedback:
1. Looking for around $150 USD and below, this is somewhat flexible.
2. I'm in NYC so I have access to tri-state area brick and mortar stores, however I was primarily going to search on Ebay. (open to Depop/Grailed etc.)
3. This isn't urgent, I want to find a pair that are in good shape for my budget that will fit well so happy to spend a month or even more searching.
With that in mind, what are some brands I should be using in my searches, and what should I specifically look out for to see if the shoe is still in decent-good condition? Thank you!

Dumb question but do you know your size?
if you want to nail your size for sure, honestly I think your best bet is allen edmonds, or maybe alden since you can find brick and mortar stores to try those on
For loafers specifically, I don't know as I haven't owned a pair in a while. I know one recommendation I've seen is to go into an Alden store (which there is one in NYC) and get measured so I plan on doing that.
those will definitely fit your budget second hand
loafers are hard to get right since the instep height cant be adjusted with laces
so even if your foot matches what people recommend online based on a brannock, its iffy on getting a good fit unless you can actualyl try it
would this be an issue with penny loafers though?
so it seems like going into AE/Alden in person and getting sized, and then searching those on eBay is probably my best course of action
Any loafer
read it as 'can be adjusted', can't makes way more sense lol
lol I was wondering
With all this in mind, what are some things to look for/avoid with secondhand loafers if either of you guys (or anyone else knows)?
Nothing particular to look for aside from just make sure they aren’t trashed lol
Avoid anything where the leather is cracked or super dried out generally
And probably clean and condition them before wearing the first time
if the soles are cooked thats another $100 or so to fix them
