Smart winter coat for 5’8” slim guy
I’m looking for a nice winter coat that’ll look good with my height and body type. Typically I don’t like longer coats that cover part of my legs (I guess I need to make my legs more visible to look in proportion).
I have an old winter coat in my wardrobe that I think is a double-breasted pea coat. I like the style in general but the jacket seems quite boxy on me and I don’t like the collar. I’d prefer a single-breasted jacket at a decent length that sits about suit jacket height or just higher.
Any recommendations for search terms, and other styles of jacket that might suit me in a similar vein?

you may have to make a compromise between suit-jacket length, single breasted and the peacoat style collar from a heat retention standpoint (unless you wear a heavy sport coat)
mackinaw jackets, plus heavyweight bomber and harrington jackets are single breasted and, by unbuttoning, yields a similar lapel
barn coats are slightly longer and again, will have a similar effect at the lapel by unbuttoning
i would consider a long coat as well. plenty of people of all heights and builds look good in long coats (https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1289384841346814052/1297447954872799282 https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1289384841346814052/1295106861002919996 https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1295740452502241382) and you'll find more options if you're willing to consider different lengths of jacket
Thanks, that’s helpful!
I’ve seen a few used options that I think illustrate what I’m after. Length about the same as the sleeve is my preferred, but I like the longer one with fewer pockets as well.
I think at most I’d go for one that’s the length of the third image (car coat?). Is there a style that’s a shorter version of this?
2 pic is a field jacket, if you look for wool field jackets you'll find similar
car coat is itself a shorter jacket (small version of a topcoat/overcoat), that style doesn't get any shorter
Thanks. What would you call pic 1? It looks something like a single breasted peacoat but that’s not turning up many hits
