If I want something like a t-shirt but less clingy, what sort of garments can I look at?

I really like the look of an open button down shirt over a t-shirt. But I really don't like t-shirts on me because of the way they feel like they highlight my chest. And I'm tried of wearing buttoned everything all the time. Are there any other sorts of garments I could look at that would fill the same role of being a relatively affordable layer, but that aren't knit or don't cling/drape the way t-shirts do?

I'd say tank tops? button down over a tank top looks great, either partially buttoned or open

A boxier fit or something with more structure might be up your alley. The Uniqlo Airism oversized t is always a good place to start

(probably important context - I have tits and it turns out I have to have a therapist to sign off on that I'm allowed to not have tits before I can start planning to not have tits and it's a whole thing)

Ignore my last, wasn’t aware that breasts were the issue. Maybe try a short sleeved sweatshirt? They’re gonna have a little more structure and a little less drape.

huh, didn't know those were a thing. good to know.

I usually just buy a long sleeve one and hack the arms off. Fruit of the Loom is a great starter for that

could probably handle that. michaels always has the cheap ones around here that you're supposed to use for crafts. yeah I think "more structure" is a lot of what I'm looking for. something that doesn't just sorta hang on your body

That’d probably be worth trying out! There also always at least a few at thrift stores.

i have nothing else to suggest that hasn't already been brought up, but have you tried wearing a compression bra, or otherwise binding? that might help your shirts feel boxier when they're not cut to the hourglass typical of women's t-shirts/blouses

My partner likes Both& tees for this. They work especially well with a binder.

important to know about both& is that they're currently shutting down; you may have to take their patterns (wherever they are on their site) and sew them up yourself if the cut you want is gone

I downloaded every spec sheet they made available, lmk if anyone needs any lol Still looks like they have full size runs in a couple different fits of the tees in black and white at least

let's just say with the genetics I got, I don't need a binder so much as a portal to make it work. binders ain't magic.

i get that. i know they’re not magic but i was wondering if it would help

it's more that like...wearing a binder means I go down to a D cup I'm wearing them, there's just only so much I'm gonna get from binders alone

shit, yeah.

so I figured I'd look at clothing options as well. I tend to gravitate to stiffer or thicker fabrics, but I'm also in environments where I don't have a lot of call for button down shirts and I just really like the open shirt over a tee look.

The sweatshirt idea is a good shout, if the ribbing at the bottom is nice and snug you can pull it up a little bit to give yourself more billowing/make some room You could also get an oversized tee with a heavier fabric and tuck into you pants then pull it up a bit to do the same thing

I've definitely had trouble finding oversized tees that actually are possible to wear under shirts. a lot of stuff tends to run a bit too wide in the shoulders for me normally, which unfortunately means that hitting the point where something is "oversized" and not "this just ain't working" is a little tricky
