How should a bomber jacket fit?

Just bought a olive green schott bomber but I think it is way too small. The jacket waist rises above my belt and stays there whe im walking. It exposes my shirt and make me look like a walking trashbag. Im 178cm ( 5.8" ) and got the "Recycled Nylon washed MA-1 Bomber jacket" in S size.

Bombers are generally cropped, but a pic here is needed otherwise nobody can really say.

I'd have to constantly readjust it. I think I'll return it and try a size larger

The angle of the photo makes it hard to tell what is going on exactly, but the crop on the bomber looks fine to me. I just think your trousers are a bit low rise. A more regular rise (not even high) would likely get rid of the problem If you only wear trousers in that position, then maybe the jacket isn't the one for you

Yeah I tried with 3 different pants but I can't make it work. You may be right that it probably is the correct size but the jacket just isn't for me. thanks for the comment maybe ive been wearing pants wrong all the time lmao

Might help to compare to other bomber jacket photos you see and ask yourself what looks different

Rando photo #1 with a normal rise trouser

Assortment of rando bomber fit photos with slim fit pants. I don't think this looks good but it's also been a common look for the last +10 years In these sort of fits you can see the shirt is almost always protruding from the bottom. That seems to be the norm if folks are tied to pairing lower rise slim fitting pants with a cropped bomber

Not really a right or wrong, but some things are more or less harmonious together

I tried pulling my pants up a bit and it definitely seems to fit better now but it still exposes the back of my inner shirt

I guess my point is, unless you are wearing normal rise trousers with a shirt tucked in, or have a cropped shirt underneath - your shirt is going to stick out There is nothing inherently wrong with your shirt sticking out though
ClusterError
ClusterError2d ago
Yeah I had my shirt tucked in and tried with mid rise jeans but it still exposed the back I might try a size larger but you're probaby right that the jacket might not be for me

Bigger is better with bombers until you get to like xxl-3xl and it loses its shape a bit but the cropped length is normal and cool
ClusterError
ClusterError2d ago
yeah maybe its just me overthinking lol I find it very weird for the jacket to "rest" on the belt

Sal2d ago
it is weird at first but you'll adjust the cropped length is very important to getting the puffy look right you can fine tune the funky proportions with some high waisted pants

Seconding all that, looks like it fits exactly how a bomber traditionally would They were flight jackets originally so they’re designed for being comfortable and maneuverable while seated That’s why they’re cropped with such large armholes and longer sleeves As far as just feeling better about your shirt poking out, I often do that intentionally with other garments, like a big tee under a big but cropped sweatshirt, mess around with different lengths and cuts and see what you like High rise jeans would definitely make it easier imo

When you put it like that it makes sense now lol With the larger tshirt not tucked my shirt kinda looked like a skirt from sides but that just might be me lol
bishopcorrigan
Sometimes the ribbing at the bottom can pull at the shirt in an unfortunate way but I wouldn’t worry about it looking like a skirt If you take some full body pictures we can try and assuage your concerns

nice pic ahaha Unfortunately I already packed the jacket neatly in the return bag but I'll give it one more try later this evening I really like the jacket but I've never worn something so "small"

I really like having jackets that hit at different lengths, let’s me do a lot more, but yeah it can take some getting used to if you’ve never worn a cropped jacket before

Yeah I live in Finland so it's cold as hell during winters and im missing a jacket that keeps me warm and is water/snow resistant to sone degree I have a puffer for -25°C colds and leather jacket for 0°C weathers but nothing in between I'm also looking for new jeans atm so feel free to suggest something preferably from Zalando or Boozt.

what's the measurement from collar seam to bottom end of the waistband knit? generally speaking even if it's a "vintage length" it should not be above the belt
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan21h ago
Your belt depends on your pants That’s not a reliable way to check
Tac Error
Tac Error21h ago
maybe, but it can also mean that a longer length cut for the jacket might be more preferable

what do you guys think? I think it looks slightly weird when my shirt comes exposed like that but I dont really know
bishopcorrigan
bishopcorrigan20h ago
I think it would definitely work better with higher rise If that’s where your pants typically hit, I would probably just get a size up Oversized is good for a bomber so it’s hard to go wrong there
ClusterError
ClusterError20h ago
Yeah I don't like pulling my pants all the way up to my belly

I’ve got some legendarily high rise pants that I love but it’s not everyone’s bag

yeah it doesn't look bad I've just never wore it like that
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh20h ago
Maybe it's obvious, but the pants also dictate how they should be worn too I.e. some pants are designed with a higher rise and are natural to wear higher Your pants likely are not meant to be worn that high because there just isn't enough material to go up
ClusterError
ClusterError20h ago
Yeah I don't think any of my pants are high rise thanks for the comments ill update this once I get the size larger What colours would you guys wear? I'm thinking beige/blue/black jeans atleast
