Should I buy shirts at discount even if I don't currently need them?

Would it be reasonable to purchase some shirts even if I don't need them at my work currently? I'm in IT and we have a super casual dresscode (t-shirt, jeans). But I have an opportunity to purchase some really high quality shirts right now at a very low price. Not sure if, or how many I should buy tbh. Feels like it might be a smart move if I change job in 2-3 years that requires a more proper dresscode? Atleast considering getting 2 to wear at any upcoming events outside of work.

Not currently at my workplace, but expecting to need them perhaps if I change job in the future (staying 1-2 more years atleast though). Wouldn't get them if I didn't have such a discount opportunity. They're otherwise really price in my country.

this type of thinking has always resulted in me owning things I don't need or particularly enjoy but also I get it

If you don’t own one and you see yourself wearing one soon and it’s as you say very cheap then go for it But if wearing them is just wishful thinking maybe hold off

there is no guarantee you will be shaped the way you are or like the things you do in 2-3 years

Yeah I don't own a single shirt right now, so definitely gonna get 2 for any events off-work. @kyn that's very true

If you don’t own a shirt you probably may need to get one in short notice and if this one is truly very cheap might as well get it

I've always wanted them but they're too expensive at retail price (150 euro), but can't really utilize them at work.

Ok I’m gonna stop being general What do you want If it’s a white dress shirt buy it If it’s a funky 70s camp collar shirt don’t buy it

My thought is getting versatile colors, so white and blue. Perhaps grey also? Not sure what's the most optimal colors here if I'm only picking 2 or 3 No funky 70s vibes

versatility depends on all the other things you plan to wear it with

do you have the money to afford buying 2-3 extra shirts that you will not currently wear like kyn said there's no guarantee of how you'll be shaped or where you'll be working in 2-3 years

Yeah got the money, and think I'll be using 2 occasionally. Feels like I need to grow up and wear shirts if going out to restaurants

i bought a bunch of dress shirts right when graduating college, dropped out of grad school soon after, and worked at a grocery store wherein i could just wear t shirts

Yeah, makes more sense to buy 2 then

buy it then imo actually see if you wear them though; you shouldn't be trying to force reasons to justify your purchases

Will do! Given I only wear navy/black chinos and black jeans, what would be the most versatile colors for 2 shirts? White is quite given I guess?

if it's "i'm interviewing at places" fine, if it's "i might be going out to fancy restaurants" when you've never been to such a restaurant it's worth looking at whether you need it white and light gray or light blue

Yeah, sometimes I show up to restaurants or other events where I wished I had a shirt tbh 😂 Will take a look into those, thanks!
