Save file making the game crash
Hello, I just encountered a problem where, every time I try to enter in Satisfactory my game crash (Steam). Let me explain, the first time I entered everything went well, but some time later it crashed (I'm not that worried, is a big world and I understand that sometimes mods can give problems) but when I tried to open the game again it feezed and crashed, not even reaching the Main Menu. I tried multiple times to enter, but every time it crash, even the Vanilla one. I already tried to un-installed and re-installed the game and check the files integrity. I tried to eliminate the last save file, but nothing, every time I enter and then crash it reappears I tried eliminate it multiple times, but is always there. I don't know what to do (when it crash it doesn't show any crash report, or anything)
Thanks in advance
(The three highlited files are those in questions)

ok, next idea. Copy and paste a save which you know works, and rename it to replace all of the broken files.

We need more information to help you. Before launching the game again, open the Mod Manager and use the "Generate debug info" option, then send the zip file produced in this channel.
If you need to access older log files, see https://docs.ficsit.app/satisfactory-modding/latest/faq.html#Files_Logs
It looks like your save file is corrupted
[2024.10.14-21.01.35:880][ 0]LogFileManager: Error: Requested read of 2063597574 bytes when 7167792 bytes remain (file=C:/Users/user/AppData/Local/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/76561198976755155/mmmmmmm2.sav, size=7167997)
what can i do?
most likely, not a lot - use an old autosave. There's the slimmest of possible chances the save can be fixed by loading it into the online map & downloading it back out, but I'd give that a very low chance of success
okay, but how can i eliminate that corrupted file if every time i try to enter Satisfactory it reappers?
oh you've deleted the save from the folder and it just pops back up?
yes
right, two potential reasons:
it could be steam managing the folder, or it could be windows being very broken.
Lets think about the former first - might take me a minute to give instructions because I haven't had to touch this for a long time
okay, no worries
Well first up I'd make a backup of your whole save folder
then tbh I'd try deleting those files with the game shut, then launching the game and see if you get a steam cloud conflict dialog popping up
I could swear I saw a nice tool for managing steamcloud files recently but can't find it anywhere right now...
okay, so i create a backup of this folder right? is the one where all that files are stored
yep!
done
Right, now lets find out if Steam is gonna try and put back the broken files!
wait, with mods or not?
doesn't matter
the problem is the save file, not mods - mods might have broken the save originally, but it could very well be a vanilla issue
if it tells you there's a steamcloud conflict, keep your local files
nothing changed, I started the game and it went on loading screen, then it loaded for a bit and then it freezed
and crashed
and have the mmmm files reappeared in your save folder?
yep, all of them
all 3

Because they're just missing, in a way there's no conflict - whereas if we replace the files steam will have to ask which ones to keep
Can't you just turn off cloud saving @sjhoward3 ?
Yes, although that then risks the saves in future - especially if there's an issue with the hard drive, which I wouldn't be surprised given I've never seen a satisfactory save try and read far beyond the end of the file before
we have significant degrees of fuckage™️ going on here
@sjhoward3 where are you, i want to hug you
it worked
Haha probably very far away! Glad that did the trick
thanks a lot, really
my pleasure 🙂
i tried with mod just now and works fine too
