Fashionable Analog Watch

I own a Casio F-91W watch as my daily utility watch due to its lightweight nature and the price it came in. Now, I am planning to buy an analog watch that works well with outfits like - office outfits, ceremonial outfits, going places with people. If possible 2/3 watches are also welcome if it comes under my budget Budget - Rs.4000/ $50 Location - India Online Stores - accepted but store must have a return policy Timescale - I have more than a year to wait, so ready to wait for a sale Second Hand - Not interested Measurement - My favorite fit - Actually I am not someone who has a particularly good taste, oftentimes the things I like seem to be ugly for others. So I am open for inputs. But I'll just say what I thought was good. I read the MFA guide to watches. Casio, Timex watch brands are the ones which had watches meeting my budget requirements. My idea was the watch being the same and changing the straps based on the event type. BEZEL: Gold, Black, Silver were the common colors available for the bezel. Gold would not suit for casual hangouts, and I just thought(not sure tho) that black might not look good for ceremonial outfits. So I went with Silver Bezel(still not sure whether that would look good for casual-wear) DIAL COLOR & STRAP: there were lot of options, I thought the blue dial with silver color stainless steel strap looked good for ceremonial look and the white dial with brown color leather strap looked good for a casual look, so i just thought that white dial with silver color stainless steel strap also looks fine for ceremonial outfits(not sure tho) so now I am in the idea of a white dial and brown leather, silver steel straps BUILD: i just thought a bulky watch build would make me look manlier(just my perception as of now ready to change if that's not the case) FINISH i thought shinier finish looks good for ceremonial looks and matte finish looked good for casual-wear, now I am thinking matte finish for ceremonial doesn't look so bad.

with watch sizing i think it's best to find a watch that's proportionate to the wrist; too big or too small might have the opposite effect of what you're trying to seek my daily rider is a timex weekender 38mm whose straps i change out as needed (usually black, sometimes orange to be fun). nice, easy to pair, and the changing of the strap feels like a different watch entirely

Oh right Yeah that's what I was trying to say, I am kinda new to all this, so these kinds inputs are highly valuable thanks🙏 @zeometer also, the watch guide only has info about the brands to buy from is there any guide like - what watch band colour to wear based off of age, event, etc. or can you tell your preferences on how to choose a watch based on the events I mentioned? @zeometer also what do you think about the watch images I have posted?

Those casios are fine - somewhat classic looking, but I can tell from looking at the width of the case and lugs that it'll wear large on the wrist. If you look at where the hands fall on the dial you can tell that the movement is undersized for the case too. What is the case diameter for that casio? I think that sort of style is fairly flexible though. Definitely a sports watch, which has been cool to wear casually or with suits for decades now and is very accepted. Steel bracelet vs leather band is a matter of preference. If you're in India, my two cents is that the steel bracelet will be more comfortable to wear than leather. I rarely wear leather bands when it gets too hot because it gets sticky. You can always buy the steel bracelet version and then separately buy a leather band and swap them out when you feel like it. That's what I would do in your position

the sport watch is alright imo; i have a gold citizen eco i wear less often, usually when i want to wear a gold watch or something else on the wrist. in terms of what to wear and when it's honestly up to your personal preference aside from perhaps any cultural ceremonies with specific dress codes. but otherwise your age and the context of the event has little relevance what color of watch band is appropriate imo.

Case size (LĂ— WĂ— H) 50 Ă— 44.9 Ă— 9.4 mm is it possible it was deliberately designed to be undersized?
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
That's pretty huge in my opinion
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
I have big hand though, should try in physical shop maybe I should fix my size first, and then my options woud be reduced dramatically to the point I have to sacrifice something
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
No, Casio is not making custom movements for cases at this price point. They have a few more affordable movements they put in everything, and then will package them in a million different cases to appeal to different buyers. Most folks just don't pay attention to the hand placement and don't notice I do think trying to determine a size in a shop is a good place to start
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
oh good to know btw, is there any advantage as to looks/functionality as to the dial being placed that way you say compared to the undersized one?
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
Usually around 38mm like @zeometer mentioned is a good baseline for size. 40-42mm is normal and on the larger side. I have pretty "average " sized wrists for a man and have worn watches as small as 30mm and think they look good. This one both has a very large case diameter AND is a very wide case with wide lugs, so it will wear even bigger than the dimensions state A watch that has hands extending to the edge of the dial looks more balanced, intentional, and proportional A watch with undersized hands doesn't, and to me it reads as a cost cutting exercise for a manufacturer

Just saw some designs in citizen website, how do you think this one looks? Also note the difference in the temple structure for the 2nd design and the third design and I am starting to fall in love with the first design

This one looks the best of the bunch in my opinion

It's simple and classic. It also has a sapphire crystal which means it will be more durable and is unlikely to get scratched Hands look nice I like chronographs, but those ones are a bit too cramped for my taste (probably again due to a difference between movement size and case size)
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
I too don't like chronographs Like the round thing around watch's case?
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
But this is definitely my preference of the two chronographs you shared

Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
Oh so that's what a chronograph is? Oh I hate these too btw
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
Well, these ones are not technically chronographs but are chronograph inspired But it's the little subdials you see on the watch
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
Yeah yeah got it
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
A chronograph will allow you to basically hit a button to start a timer on those subdials
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
There are also watches like that have round thingy over the border of the case with numbers, GMT or something I think those look too over the top imo, but most expensive watches are that way though Oh yeah yeah I see the 2 buttons in watches' sides
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
Chronographs can be really cool but are harder to do well in my opinion, especially at lower price points

rawburt-oh•2mo ago
I think you're probably describing dive watches
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
I don't know I saw some Seiko and Rolex watches and they had those gmt thingies
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
There are some overlapping functionalities and use cases
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
Hmm Btw any other brand that you recommend in the price point I mentioned?
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
Dive watches have a rotating outer bezel that allows you to designate when you started a descent when you are diving so you can track how much time has elapsed
No description
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
Oh noice good thing to have ig as a diver
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
GMTs CAN also have rotating outer bezels but don't need to have them
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
What GMTs really allow you to do is track two time zones on one watch
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
Right so it's just that extra âś‹
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
The idea is that you track Greenwich Mean Time with the GMT hand, and your local time zone with the other hand There are other brands that are fun in lower price categories and I am sure there are local Indian brands worth seeing too, but I think timex and Casio may be the best bets for versatile everyday watches Seiko is great too but idk how much they have in that price band and think Casio is likely to have better options there
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
But I am not sure whether I will be getting stainless steel band into this watch Timex website doesn't have any straps
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
You don't need stainless, it's just nice to have if it's offered A good alternative is a cloth or NATO strap of sorts You just need to know the lug width of whatever watch you get and 90% of them you can swap them out with other leather or cloth straps Wear a cloth one casually when it's really hot, and swap it for leather for dress occasions or on cooler days
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
Actually, I don't mind the heat and all, I want the looks that's it I thought stainless steel would be a better option in occasions like ceremonial events, am I wrong?, do leather watches look better?
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
Leather is more formal Stainless steel is "sportier", but it doesn't really matter much. Folks will wear steel bracelet watches to formal events all of the time these days
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
Right
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
its priced $33
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
I still think this is a good bet. Just a heads up though that slim bezel watches like this will appear to wear larger than their listed dimensions, but you mentioned that you had larger wrists so it should be fine Was $33 within your price range again? It's a good value
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
so this would be a good dress watch right
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
Yes You won't find better for that price
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
yes
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
It's a good value and will be easy to wear with anything
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
how would you compare this with the weekender? but the leather strap doesn't look good in the video and timex dont have straps in their indian site
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
Weekender is really cool, but it's more of a military inspired vintage watch Less formal But weekender is better for casual wear You don't need to get timex straps Straps are based on lug width I don't know what the local market is like but there are likely a lot of vendors selling aftermarket watch straps
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
right, so can i add a metal strap for this then?
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
You need a little tool thing for it to swap out the strap but it's easy to do and there are videos
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
yes there are but how can I be sure those straps are not bad as these maybe buy and try and return ig
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
Without knowing any local brands, your best bet is to find a local in person vendor You won't find normal metal bracelets that look like a rolex oyster style bracelet or anything like that aftermarket for the timex They are custom designed to fit the case However One good alternative is a milanese style bracelet

https://shop.timexindia.com/products/timex-analog-white-dial-men-s-watch-tweg22100 it says no scratch resisteance though but sapphire is mentioned dont know why its not mentioned in the specs

I'm not sure what the "scratch resistance" category even means, I would ignore it. Sapphire will be great and it's what many higher end watch manufacturers also use

dont they look womens watchy???

ig best would be to use this as a purely dress watch and get something else as casualwear ig a bulky looking stainless steel watch? https://www.casio.com/in/watches/casio/product.MTP-1381D-7AV/ what do you think of these? rolex lookalikes
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
There's not much of a thing of this anymore to be honest, it's just a simple metal bracelet and all sorts of folks wear them
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
oh right rolex daydate lookalike
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
That's not bad but lookalikes are not so much my thing

Which one? The casio?
Hardy Ware
Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
yes the last pne i showed this one
rawburt-oh
rawburt-oh•2mo ago
It's similar in the sense that it's on a steel bracelet with a black dial, but there are a lot of differences too. Mine is time- only with a simpler style bracelet, no guards around the crown. Automatic vs quartz, etc That one has a mineral crystal glass which looks cool but will also get scuffed up. Not a big deal if you don't expect a watch to look pristine all of the time If you like it you should go for it though. Casio makes nice watches

Only other advice would be to just start with a single watch and see how you like it There are things you just need to live with to understand sometimes, such as size of the watch, materials, weight, etc so you can get an idea of what you do and don't like better

Hardy WareOP•2mo ago
Oh right I am not gonna buy this watch anytime soon It'll take a year ig Till that I'll be with my Casio I m kinda working on myself now
