Cloudflare tunnel refusing to work without subdomain

Hi There, I'm getting an extremely strange issue with cloudflare tunnel where I cannot forward a url to my domain without it being on a subdomain (e.g h.3tnl.dev). When I try just 3tnl.dev, Firefox will just spit out "Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site." while cloudflare tunnel does not log any error, just the creation of the tunnel as shown here
{\"hostname\":\"3tnl.dev\",\"originRequest\":{},\"service\":\"http://SERVICEIP\"},{\"service\":\"http_status:404\"}],\"warp-routing\":{\"enabled\":false}}" version=123
{\"hostname\":\"3tnl.dev\",\"originRequest\":{},\"service\":\"http://SERVICEIP\"},{\"service\":\"http_status:404\"}],\"warp-routing\":{\"enabled\":false}}" version=123
I've checked my DNS management and I've only found this info box next to the DNS entry only which may be the reason. CNAME records normally can not be on the zone apex. We use CNAME flattening to make it possible. Learn more.
