Caused by: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: arraycopy: last source index 30 out of bounds for object array[10] at java.base/java.lang.System.arraycopy(Native Method) at ChessElo.calcTournamentResults(ChessElo.java:108) at ChessElo.tournamentResults(ChessElo.java:50) at ChessElo.main(ChessElo.java:139) ... 18 more I apologize for the atrocious variable names, I rushed through

This Stack Overflow answer explains why
List<SomeType> someList = new ArrayList<>();
List<SomeType> someList = new ArrayList<>();
should be preferred over
ArrayList<SomeType> someList = new ArrayList<>();
ArrayList<SomeType> someList = new ArrayList<>();
in most cases.
