Issue with player connecting to my server
Hi all, I'm trying to host a server for some friends and I'm able to connect, however my friend that's helping me test isn't.
She is constantly getting the "Internal Exception: io.netty.handler.codec.DecoderException: Unknown serializer type" with a random number at the end, so far we've seen 97, 111, 110, 116, 167, 105 from what I can recall.
We're hosing a 1.20.1 Forge server and made sure to have the exact same mods but nothing, I can connect fine but she joins and immediately gets disconnected with that error.
This is the log file she sent me but I wasn't able to deduce what the issue is: https://mclo.gs/TP90j44
From reading online it seems to be an issue with the Cobblemon mod but uninstalling it didn't help.

If this is not the correct place to ask, please direct me to the correct place, I'm lost as to where to even ask tbh lmao
Just tested it out with another player, they were able to join fine without any changes. This appears to be an issue on the first player's side but i have no clue what
This is the correct place.
Very likely a mod mismatch on the client. Make sure the versions are exactly correct
I tried, I literally sent them my mods folder lol
Can you include logs of the players failing to connect please
The only thing I was provided with was the logs in the post above :/
I'll try to get them tomorrow
The only thing I can think of is that they maybe didn't install the same version of forge, we'll check that tomorrow aswell
tbh looks like the server has client side mods on it
I love it when mods try to load assets on a fucking server even though it knows it.
That is also a possibility, I'll need to check what's client side only, admittedly i was kinda lazy and just took out the obvious ones like Distant Horizons and Embeddium lmao might've left one or two
Yeah I had them download the same version of j17 I'm using but she's on latest forge while I'm on recommended, we'll try to change the forge version and hopefully that fixes the issue. The mods are the same for sure, i zipped my mods folder and sent it to her to be completely sure lmao
Will do, thanks!
Just tried again, nothing :( She's using the same forge version, same mods, tried the playerdata thing too but she still got kicked with this error

This is their Debug.log file

Sure! One moment please
I'm on Neoforge, they're on forge but the Server is Forge aswell
I can switch to regular forge if need be
Thing is that the other friend that helped me test was able to connect with the exact same setup the friend with the issue has, they were both on Forge 47.3.0
Very, I gave them the exact installer i used for installing the server lol
We're trying prism right now, I'm using that but both friends were using the default minecraft launcher
The friend with the issue used Modrinth but then switched to default
I hope so too lol they just updated their Java to 17.0.12 just to make absolute sure and I'm exporting my instance for them
No dice, they just tried it with my exported instance, java 17.0.12 and got the same error

What's odd is that it's never a consistent error, the numbers change each time they try to connect
So, update, it seems to be an issue with the Cobblemon mod, we removed it and it's working fine now
