How good is a Ryzen 9 5950x
Basically the title says it, but how good is it for modern minecraft 1.21? Some kind of estimate how many players could it handle on one paper server for example.

Overclocked?
just perfect and work for 100-150 players
if you only want to run a single paper server, the 5800x3d might be a better choice
Does 3d vcache have a measurable improvement for hosting MC?
oh, I didn't realize how cheap the 5950x is now
Well I plan on having one production 1.21 paper server. And a few servers with minigames on them as well.
The main concern for me is it enough to handle chunk loading fast enough if maybe server has 50 players and 10 of them are flying with a elytra
Preload the chunk or use
TooManyGen
yes, I usually preload always. But is it enough to load them for quite a few players without issues?
yes you can, i tried to pregen the chunk while having 10 players and the mspt only reach up to 30mspt
but i dont know what were my 10 players doing
Okay in that case the 5950x seems to be a fine option
It has gotten pretty cheap too
What did you say about overclocking btw?
Never had any experience with that
are you going to rent from a provider or buy the hardware
why i forgot to ask that question :Trollge:
if you could overclock them, it could get quite powerfull to run 100 - 150 players in total for a Survival server
but i think you could host more players if your server are oneblock, skyblock, etc
overclocking ryzen CPUs barely provides any performance gains from what I've heard
most of the time amd has gotten most of the performance out of em, sepecially when there 'Old' cpus
@Swift
swiftality has reached level 2!
Roles Added:
Level 2
Buying it
wouldnt overclock
cooling and power usage would be more costly
Okay, In that case im pretty sure it is the best option atm. Main issue before was when people were flying with elytras or even more if using /fly even if the chunks are pregenerated.
note selfhosting has a fair few downsides
power costs, internet costs (most isps want you to move to a business plan etc), ddos protection, hardware depreciation, no redundency etc
Yea, Im aware of these things I have been selfhosting for over a year now
for 50 players?
a bit less
