choppy graphic bug
hi, i encountered this strange bug where everything looks choppy. i have amd cpu and rtx 3070. i did many tries even with other distros and de but nothing worked. i think it is related to the nvidia 560 driver so maybe downgrading it to 550 could work. how do i do that? or, do you know what to do with this bug? the video i sent shows that in gnome on another distro just because im there atm, but the same thing happened in bazzite.

games works btw. it’s just when i resize or similar
Nvidia support in any Linux distro is pretty awful (fully nvidia's fault...). Have you tried X11 rather than wayland? It should be in the right in your login screen where you can switch to it
yes tried it and it's worst than wayland. a lot more choppy and that extends to the whole system
i also tried xfce
man i was really liking linux, don´t want to go back to windows. i mean, games and stuff work, there are only little issues like this
Next thing you can try would be the
bazzite-rollback-helper
try an older version of Bazzite (which will have older GPU drivers) and see if that makes a difference. I'd try bazzite-rollback-helper rebase stable-40.20240809.0
(which would probably have the 555 driver) and see if you have better luck with the 555 driver. More info here https://docs.bazzite.gg/Installing_and_Managing_Software/Updates_Rollbacks_and_Rebasing/bazzite_rollback_helper/Bazzite Rollback Helper - Bazzite Documentation
Bazzite is a custom image built upon Fedora Atomic Desktops that brings the best of Linux gaming to all of your devices - including your favorite handheld.
thanks this is a great idea
isn´t there a way to download an older bazzite iso so i can reflash directly
?
unfortunately not but you can just jump to an older version, with the rebasing instructions.
perfect, thank you
You are welcome. Good luck!
ok i rolled back but im still on driver 560
please do an
rpm-ostree status
. also did you reboot after rebase?i rebooted yes

and you still having the same issues? Try a bit further back maybe "40-stable-20240702"
same issues
😦 I'm out of ideas, will let you know if I think of anything
mm ok thanks
try
rpm-ostree rebase ostree-image-signed:docker://ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite-nvidia-open:stable
you got a newer nvidia card and should be on that image anyway going forward, might fix the issue, might not
since i havent seen it beforeI hate to tell you this but I've used brave for a while and my experience with it wasn't any better
I can tell you switching to GTK in the settings made it better but it just never felt native, and it was stuttering for me too
Best state I could get brave is to mostly run with few glitches ang lags (as all chromium browsers) at like 60 fps or lower for some reason (I have 144 hz monitor)
I switched to Zen Browser or anything based on firefox and it's much much better, I do miss chromium on mobile but it's not too bad overall
If you still want to use brave, and I see you have it as flatpak, Go to flatseal and disable wayland, also make sure x11 is enabled
Yeah I'm also using this image and getting lags on brave and electron/chromium based stuff, even discord for example, I'm not sure why it's like that
i made a post on reddit asking the same problem https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxquestions/s/IHlJx4yDxK. AND we discovered this also happens in windows. so i reinstalled windows and YEAH IT HAPPENS. How could i never notice that? i really don’t know. this is what 2/3 people said:
“I think the environment where it's least noticeable is in Gnome with Wayland+MESA/NVK, but it's a pretty common issue. Try testing with Fedora without installing proprietary drivers, just using MESA/NVK. Also, try enabling flags in Chromium-based browsers to use Wayland.
In general, the only applications that don't usually have these issues are the native ones for each system; the rest all have limitations or defects. Additionally, most people don't typically resize windows during regular use. Generally, things are tested under "standards." For now, the standard is still 1080p-/14"-notebook/24"-desktop 60Hz, where most of the time you'll have the window maximized or split 50/50. There's no incentive to fix it.
P.S.: I'm using Windows right now, and it behaves similarly. The only system that "escapes" this issue is macOS.
P.S.2: I also suffer from OCD, but there's nothing we can do that's within our control. Have a great day! 😊”
it seems like such a bizarre issue, especially since it also happens on windows as you mentioned
i also asked a friend to try that opening a youtube video and resizing and it did the same issue
try it by yourself
we just didn’t ever notice
i cant
since i cant replicate it
Found a fix, "Gnome Web", I couldn't replicate the issue on that browser, but it's based on safari with no extensions so it's not really a fix, but it is interesting nontheless
