Jean Fits and Sizing
So I’m buying jeans for the first time in years and want to do it right. I’ve tried on two pairs that fit great, a Levi 514 in a size 32 and a Levi 505 100% cotton in a size 33. I want a bit better denim so I’m looking second hand at brands like Naked & Famous, Unbranded, Nudie, Hiroshi Kato, etc. I did measure the 514s and 505s but not sure I did it right. I think I want 100% denim so I’ll be looking for size 33s. What type of fits should I be looking at? So far it seems Weird Guy for N&F, haven’t delved deep in the others yet. I know I’ve been helped before and thanks to everyone but now that I know what fits and what I want, a new thread would be helpful.

Also looking at the Unbranded 301/201, and 3sixteen SL and CS? But not sure which is closer to the 505 fit
Is this a good buy at $55? N&F weird guy.
N&F is a good entry level to jeans upgrade. If you can be patient, Gustin is a good start as well. If you are willing to spend a little more, you can probably find some used from Japanese brands but if you want to stick with the softer American/Canadian denim, yea go with N&F
Measure the pair you like and compare size charts. These jeans tend to be less stretchy than Levi's and can shrink, so err on the side of a going a touch bigger
Considering I’m looking at $55 used pairs, I think I should stick with N&F/Unbranded/Gustin for now. Do you think the photos I posted were a good deal?
Google search shows used N&F prices spanning $25 - $80. So not an incredible deal but not unreasonable.
Wait really? Their website has them for much more. Or is Google showing used prices? Also, nothing looked wrong in the photos?
Used
I just glanced, didn't check sizes or quality
Is this a good buy at $50
Or this pair for $45?
So these are different kinds of jeans from the first you posted, which is much heavier denim as far as I can tell.
If you're asking for aesthetics, I like the fading on the last one the most, and it still seems to be holding up well. They're all on the slim/taper side, which is a bit off trend, but nothing wrong with that.
If YOU like them, then yea, any of these is a fine deal.
Weird Guy is the closest to a 505 fit I can find from N&F. Also, what numbers can I look up on the tag to find out which style they are exactly?
Yea weird guy is what I go with too. It's the RN number on the tag. Should give you the info you want. Just consider that N&F does a TON of special release stuff which spikes prices fairly arbitrarily without being like, "better," per se.
I’ve noticed. Though they’re not the only brand I’ve found 😂
I guess I don’t necessarily know what to look for when looking at used jeans. Like obviously damage, but I don’t exactly know what else is there, especially with raw denim. To me a good fade doesn’t have a phone or wallet outline, but how do I know if they’d hold up well?
Fades are just purely on preference. Most would like "whiskers," which are the horizontal crease fades, instead of vertical patches from washer/dryer. Some like wallet outlines, some don't.
Will they last - depends on how hard you're wearing them, but mostly you're looking for stitching coming undone, holes, etc. you can always ask for more pictures. Crotch is the most likely blow out area
