Steam Deck OLED: Wakes itself after I set it to sleep.
No idea what's happening here. Tried wiping decky, bluetooth is disabled, no controllers paired. Stable update channel and stable client.
any ideas?

adding: sometimes it won't wake itself at all. someone it will do it 3 times in a row then stop.
Yeah, noticing this too after I updated.
oof
worse case scenario, try rolling back your Bazzite version and try to figure out which OS version introduced the bug
Bazzite Rollback Helper - Bazzite Documentation
Bazzite is a custom image built upon Fedora Atomic Desktops that brings the best of Linux gaming to all of your devices - including your favorite handheld.
bazzite-rollback-helper list
will list available bazzite images.
bazzite-rollback-helper rebase image_goes_name_here
for to rollback, you can use a version from the list
command. Note, due to a recent issue, currently only images from around 07/02 and later will currently work
e.g. bazzite-rollback-helper rebase stable-40.20240912.0
note that rebasing to an image will lock you to that OS image, you will no longer get regular OS updates.
To get back to regular OS updates later after there's bugfixes, run:
bazzite-rollback-helper rebase stable
noted. i will tomorrow and report
if you figure out which version introduced the bug, report it to the bazzite devs
Itβs definitely before last Saturday since there was some discussion around that time
rolled back to this update and it seems to have stopped
I have a fresh install of bazzite gnome and can't roll back I don't think, iso I installed came with the issue baked in, I did a fresh install after trying everything else didn't work
I think it is still possible to roll back in this case
Just extra downloads iirc
I spy with my little eye, Stray, such an excellent gem of a game
haven't opened it yet. need to start it
hmm ok, i will look into it tomorrow
too busy with the bioshock series
I haven't finished it, but so far, one of my all time top cat games
also just games, it is good
I can't make out what you rebased to in this image here, do you have like a zoomed in shot or perhaps some copy paste text?
right click image -> open link
to open it in full quality
Solution
run:
bazzite-rollback-helper rebase stable-40.20240907.0
That did it, sleeps fine now
Most likely the update after 0907 then
Can confirm that rebasing to that image fixed the issue for me as well
From my own observations, this issue may be related to WiFi - if there is an active WiFi connection, then SDO wakes itself from sleep.
However, if you quickly try to put it to sleep again after it wakes itself up (before it manages to establish a WiFi connection), then it stays in suspended mode.
Is there a way to get notified when this specific bug is fixed so I know when to rebase back to stable?
Idk, from my own experience with this bug, even in "airplane mode" I was having issues
did y'all test any images later than 09/07?
since for all we know, it's something like the 09/12 image that introduced the bug
if someone could test 09/08 and 09/12, that'd help narrow down the bug more
since i'm assuming you guys don't want to be stuck on 09/07 forever, the rebase currently locks you to the 09/07 image
currently at work for another hour. once i'm home, ill rebase to 09/08 and see
second this. none of my testing points to anything wifi or bluetooth related
It's really frustrating on the Gnome version too, because you get the same kinda mindset using gnome as using a Mac or iPad, it should just work, so when it doesn't your disproportionately annoyed π
09/08 works. rebasing to 09/12 to see if that works
09/12 still has the issue.
ok, so 09/12 introduced the issue?
yes
@Kyle Gospo for the Steam Deck suspend issue, it seems that 09/12 introduced the bug
looks upstream, nothing changed on 09/12
@EyeCantCU You said you had it, any luck on logging it?
For completeness
same kernel, same bluez
same pipewire
and I don't see any changes to services around that date
has anyone had this without decky loader installed?
not to point the finger, just looking for avenues that we don't control or have vis of
even with decky, it's odd that it works on 09/08 and not 09/12 π€
Not yet. I'll grab logs tonight. Won't see my brother for quite a while so we've been hanging out
family first, appreciate it
thank yall for being so helpful π€πΎ
Yes, thank yall very much
Great to see this being looked at, had this problem as well π
Yeah, it is great! I am on 09/08 and will patently wait
I gathered some logs in the issue. Should I create an issue in the repo with them or attach them here?
repo is good, ty
@EyeCantCU
I snagged some as well: https://paste.centos.org/view/4a906313
It looked like NetworkManager. So I stopped NetworkManager and now it suspends successfully without resuming. Dmesg wasn't very useful unfortunately
hmm, if that's the case I'll update the network firmware
but seems odd for that to break suddenly
without a kernel change
It's very weird. No idea why it popped up out of the blue
This issue is currently sd oled only if I understand it correctly?
only place it's been reported, yea
Could be its WiFi/bt chip ig
love how easy this is
Is there like a timeframe when it will be in stable?
That's wonderful
Should be soon. I'll let you know when the build makes it through and test on my end as well
Should i scrap the bug report?
Would be useful to have it documented in case this doesn't fix it
https://github.com/ublue-os/bazzite/issues/1691
Can be filled with more info about the regression, dont have the time right now

Thank you!
Build landed in testing, there were some ghosts along the way. Updating now
Issue is still there. Going to keep digging
It happens to me on my pc desktop
Not a steam deck? This will be important
The important part would be a log that confirms it's the exact same issue
Can't just accept that claim at face value
Fair
No, amd 7700x, radeon 7900xt
Exact same thing, press steam menu - Sleep, goes to sleep and wakes up right after. Also by pressing the power button.
Need a log
There are 30 billion different things that can cause a device to not sleep, especially on a desktop
If this is a separate problem I don't want to pollute this issue with it
rebase to the 09/08 update and see if it still has the issue
run:
bazzite-rollback-helper rebase stable-40.20240908.0
Now that I'm home, I did a fresh install. I was on gnome now in KDE and same issue, how can I send the log?
I have the issue even on this built, how can I send the log?
so i'm on 09/08 on my deck rn and it's been fine for the most part
but it just woke itself from sleep
can't repeat it. bluetooth was on and connected to my airpods
cef_log.previous.txt is HUGE, like 7.8Mb
my issues with steam and apparent memory leaks and what not only seem to happen on 0908, 0907 doesn't have those issues
Can't seem to get it to replicate on 0908
either .0, .1, or .2
the oldest one i could replicate was 0911.1
haven't had it happen again. only the one time on 09/08
i don't see any oddball commits in that time period of suspect, most of them are docs updates
so the working theory is that an upstream fedora change broke it
This should be fixed in the latest update
testing and stable
Seems to be fixed in stable
Iβll test a little more since the original problem is quite inconsistent in itself
rebasing right now
Firmware needed to be downgraded. I haven't been able to reproduce since, but please let us know if the issue persists
Just rebased and working great!
I'll be updating our kernel cache to also cache the firmware packages
So that this can't happen again
thank you so much kyle
