Everspace 2 crashing on splash screen. How do I troubleshoot?
I have tried; verifying file integrity; reinstalling; and trying a handful of different proton versions each tried with DX11 and DX12. The game seems to run fine on a steamdeck, so I am starting to doubt that it's proton specifically. The problem is I installed Bazzite about a week ago, it's the first Linux distribution I have tried using as a daily driver and I have basically no knowledge of the tools at my disposal to figure out what is going on, or what else I can do about it. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is the output of fastfetch if that helps.

I have no idea where to get logs or what I should be trying to get them from.
add
PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
to your game launch option, the logs should be in ~/steam-1128920.logThank you, I didn't know that i could get proton to spit out a log. I am poking through it but I don't know what exactly I should be looking for (beyond searching for "error" anyway).
havent seen something like this, what other things did you already tried?
maybe try proton-ge or experimental
proton-ge?
Just to check, this is what your referring to?

yeah you can install it using protonup-qt or protonplus
Got slowed down because the game just updated, but I tried again with different versions of proton and DX11 and DX12 again and there wasn't a noticeable change in behavior there.
I tried GE-Proton9-13 with DX12 and DX11. It didn't seem to get any farther, but DX12 couldn't even pull up the little window. I have attached the logs from both.
Huh, I figured out how to compare them in Kate and they seem to be identical so it would appear they might be having the same issue.
wait no the compare thing wasn't working or I was doing it wrong.
Ok GE-Proton8-4 seems to work on both dx12 and ds11. Though, I am still curious what was causing the crash on newer versions of proton.
They work but not well. It gets really stuttery after a bit, on both dx11 and dx12.
The stuttering is probably from the games new update.
I restarted my computer and it has stopped working again.
restarting steam has fixed it again
It seems to be getting forced to use DX11 for some reason.
