waist size
Hello,
Can someone help me out with jeans and trousers waist size ?
Basically I am not sure what size would fit me.
I just tried a waist 31 jeans and a waist 30 trousers.
I feel that they weren't tight enough....
I am around 5 ft 7/5 ft 8
73kg
Please help.

A lot of brands go down to 28" waist (or smaller) but obviously some don't. Always the option to wear a belt if they are only slightly loose! I have jeans that fit at least like 3 or 4 inches too big that I just wear belted
Its also always helpful to know your actual measurements so you can compare against size charts, do you have a measuring tape?
Take a measurement at your natural waist (usually at or around the belly button), and one slightly lower where your waistband would usually sit and keep a note of these
Also worth measuring a pair that you own that fit you well, and seeing what the actual waist measurement from side to side is (this will obvs be half of the actual waist size)
I'm pretty much your exact height and weight fwiw, and I wear anything between size 28 and size 32, varies massively on the brand, how high or low rise they are, and just individual discrepancies between different items
Yeah your right, it really depends on the brand.
Waist 30 seems to fit me best...
But the waist 30 trousers I just tried on now were a bit loose.
Same goes for the waist 31 jeans.
I really like both these items and there are no other sizes available for me to try, so not sure what to do?
Also, I don't have a measuring tape.
A measuring tape wouldn't help anyway, because like you said my range seems to be between 29 - 31
If it's size a matter of size 31 vs size 30 you can always wear a belt.
Knowing your exact measurements certainly helps for checking against size charts. What some brands call a 30 will be more like 32" or more in real terms
But yeah ā¬ļø
Worth keeping in mind that the waist size refers to the measurement around belly button height which is way higher than most pairs of trousers will sit. Accordingly, the waistband of a size 30 pair may be a couple of inches more than 30 inches long.
So the waist 30 trouser I bought today. I put that alongside a 30 pant that fits me really well.
The 30 waist trouser that I bought today was maybe 2 fingers longer....even though they both say 30 ?
So yeah your right, depends on brands.
Now regarding the belt. I really liked the waist size 31 jeans and waist 30 trousers that I bought.
I can't go a size down for either of them as size out of stock or I will have to wait...
My question is: is buying a belt suitable in terms of style for these? Like a casual belt, not a formal one.

E.g. my true waist is 29in but if I'm wearing my trousers at about the top of my pelvis bone then the waistband needs to be like 31inches but most brands account for this so a size 29 pair that's designed to be worn there will have those measurements. Give or take.
I mean, most likely probably yes but you haven't posted pics lol
Belt always acceptable imo
Yeah if they've got belt loops, you can wear a belt

By the way, I haven't worn a belt in years. So not sure if it causes more hassle when taking it off and stuff ?

Belt looks fine. Belts are no trouble at all practically.
How many times have you seen a guy spend 5 minutes getting ready for a piss because he's wearing a belt?
If you have any thrift or charity shops near you they'll be almost certain to have a large array of nicer leather belts and stuff for similar prices as well - will be better quality than something off amazon
But that will do fine in a pinch
Also eBay, Vinted etc.
Real answer for telling whether a pair of trousers fit is to try them on. If they stay at the height you want them on their own and you can sit down without your balls hurting then they probably fit fine.
I mean they don't drop down when I walk .
It's just that it's not a snug fight as I prefer it, just a tad bit loose. Especially with the waist 31 jeans, as I think the waist 30 would have fit me perfectly but it's out of stock now in that size....
A belt would hardly be seen as my shirts, sweaters, hoodies and jackets will cover it.
Just need a quick practical fix, not bothered about the belts aesthetic that much.
In summer they will be seen , but it's not the worst looking...
buy a measuring tape tbh
But what will be the point since it differs from brand to brand?
The point will be that you can measure things so you know how big a pair of pants actually is, instead of how big the brand says it is
Do be careful with this as sometimes it can cause a build up of material in the wrong places
Ok I will measure it.
Once I have my belly's measurement, do I read what the brands measurement says for that size ?
What you mean
if itās not properly sized and then you put a belt on it material will bunch where itās not meant to
The belly button measurement will just give you a general idea of what size to go for. Like if it measures 30 then usually stuff around size 30 will fit. Sizing can vary though so always best to try things on.
How can I resolve this then?
Measure your waist, but the right size and tailoring
