down recs
Where would you look for a down jacket? Thinking vintage is the way to not invest too much money. on my list so far is vintage Eddie Bauer and Woolrich but Eddie Bauer seems to have better designs for down. Also would you prefer a shorter or longer jacket? Thank you!

Liking this vintage Eddie Bauer down jacket. what pants would you wear with it?
Also how would you treat sizing vs a non down coat?
With this blue - Black Denim should work well. On jacket length - depends on how cold it is - prefer longer if its sub zero.
Thank you, I was thinking indigo and mid blue denim could work well too
Yes - indigo as well. I myself won't be confident enough to pull off mid blue, but don't see it not working.
Tan/ Khaki as well - depending on the shade.
This is nice
I want my winter jackets to cover my butt when it comes to length
Keep ya organs toasty
Yeah that was my concern with this one though I do think it looks nice
Could do both if they're cheap enough
How many inches pit to pit allowance would you give for a down coat vs typical?
Depending on how cold you're looking to be in check out EB's old karakoram jackets. They're pretty sweet
Fishtail down parka, so good
Looks great thank you
It gets consistenly below freezing upstate
NYC is warmer but still gets p cold
Just got this All Blues Co one ready for winter, so not had chance to put it to the test. Also London doesn't get as cold as NYC so I'm not so worried about that https://allbluescostore.com/product/all-blues-co-karakoram-parka-red/

I really want one of their own brand fleeces. Tried one on in their shop and they're so, SO nice
i recently picked up this vintage ciesse piumini down jacket
i think frizmwork makes a very similar looking jacket as well
ya i have the frizmworks karakoram it's very similar, but has a hood and no chest pocket iirc (it's put away til winter)
Certain vintage models seem to be much more expensive, why is that the case?
Like the Eddie Bauer Karakorum
They're sought after because they're iconic and probably in limited supply
i like the look of old school north face jackets (nuptses from the 90s or their predecessor)
from the sort of swirling bits i gather you like sort of "heritage" inspired stuff so brands like patagonia and ll bean and old rei are also options
might also like down vests, especially the western kind
Nuptses are pretty cool
I guess sort of? I like to think I'm just looking for something rugged if that makes sense
Western down vests are cool. Thank you for the advice, I started this just looking for a $40 warm winter coat that looked cooler than my ski jacket and realized down is a big genre
Is this Woolrich down coat too red lol?
bright outerwear historically has a safety component that supersedes style imo
also no
What colors/textures would you wear it with?
it's a down jacket, put that shit on and stay warm
these were from pc, and they ignore obvious things like chinos or fatigues or cords
Maybe I should place a bid...
not to discount the efficency of a longer coat, but I'll add the personal input that my lightweight down-filled ma-1 is one of my most worn jackets
Ooh I'll look into that one
Thank you
this is like the only image I have, and it's a vintage one so idk where you'd find something similar today
but I love it and it's awesome to have a short and super light jacket that still keeps you warm
if I'd ever have the opportunity to design/recreate a selection of my wardrobe for others to purchase, this one is probably in my top 5 for basically perfect pieces of clothing
Bought that last year and got a lot a wear out of it, it’s great
