Does this look like an orphaned suit jacket?

I'm having buyers remorse, it fit me quite well but I think the notched lapels and the pockets are giving off an orphaned suit jacket feel. What do you think? Will it pair with chinos at all or is it too formal?

not feeling it as a sport coat substitute analog - i agree with you on the lapel and pockets (though flap pockets are less of an issue imo) changing out the buttons would help but imo if you're able to return it, i would instead do that and look for a actual gray herringbone sportcoat

thanks for the feedback, that's basically what I was thinking

imo if you're able to find the matching pants this would be a solid suit 👍

Those are peak lapels. It don’t think it looks like an orphans suit jacket. I do feel It sort of sits in a bit of grey area between the two. Not overtly a sport coat but not a suit jacket either. Which is a lock that a lot of guys I run into like because they can do it both ways

They have this herringbone jacket I may pick up instead as it seems a bit more versatile without peak lapels, theres red stitching on lapel buttonhole which I may just get restitched into a more neutral color. I'm very new to buying jackets and would like to keep it more on the casual side

imo the formality of tailoring nowadays is moreso based on the items it's paired with

I think it would actually work well as an odd jacket I prefer the peaked joint more than the second one you share fwiw the 2nd one would def blend in more with a usual bizcaz office if that's what you're shooting for, but paired with denim or a straight legged pant I think the 1st one whips ass

it might be worth simply trying on the jacket with your intended fit so you can see it for yourself - t-shirt and chinos or ocbd and jeans are my standard ways to wear jackets casually but it's up to your tastes.

yeah I was thinking of that exact style, I have a light blue ocbd I've been wearing a lot, buying a white ocbd next, and would like to wear t-shirts with jackets too, and I'd also like to pair jeans with jackets since I'm used to wearing them.. chinos are actually new ground for me but I'm trying to look somewhat smarter oh I see, that's kind of what I was going for, the peak lapel was just throwing me off tbh, but hearing your opinions I think I'm going to try rocking it

can always check #waywt or #inspiration to see what othe people are doing; along with me (zeometer) and coolguyjason, people like art (artvandelayimporting), jawntanamo_bae, ethan (sioku), Shrimp My Ride (shrimp_my_ride) pumaturtle and Elvander (SLDeviant) often straddle the line between formal and casual, often with the same clothes

thanks I think I will, I'm still very noobish to this and it doesn't come easily to me, so inspiration would be good
