CKB-Next can't enable experimental.
Hello! :) I'm trying out Bazzite on my laptop before hopefully finally moving my desktop off of windows, but I'm having a problem getting my mouse to work. It's a Corsair Scimitar Elite Wireless, which isn't supported in the main CKB-Next, but seems to be under experimental. https://github.com/ckb-next/ckb-next/pull/997
I added ckb-next via rpm-ostree
I've tried following this: https://github.com/ckb-next/ckb-next/pull/855#issuecomment-1178343114
but
ckb-next-daemon --enable-experimental
returns with command not found.
It seems someone is having the same problem here: https://github.com/ckb-next/ckb-next/issues/1065, but I can't edit the systemd service file mentioned later either.
I'm still kinda new to atomic distro's, so I'm not sure if there's something easy I'm missing :) I tried digging around about running it through Distrobox but I didn't find much information on that. I just got this mouse 2 months ago so I'd like to keep it, seems to not be many good MMO mice out there anymore :") Any help would be very appreciated!GitHub

Update:
Can get into experimental via
sudo systemctl edit ckb-next-daemon.service
and adding
But still not detecting the mouse, I'd assume from here I'd need a way to use the pull request here: https://github.com/ckb-next/ckb-next/pull/997 - but I'm not sure how to do this with rpm-ostree/atomic.GitHub

that PR is not merged yet so you need to wait for it to be merged then install the new version of ckb-next which includes the update with the support
:sigh: was worried that would be the case, seems the last update was over a year ago. Was hoping there would be a way to install the scimitar-elite branch for now so I could start moving my desktop over.
If I could tack on a couple more questions:
Would input-remapper work fine for this? I'm not sure if that has any delays on button presses or anything.
I've tried looking into OpenRazer too, but I get conflicting posts about if it has button remapping or not.
Thank you for the help btw! I'm still trying to get the basics down so I really appreciate it.
never used input-remapper
i also own the same mouse. i just set up the mouse with the buttons to f1-f12 and save it to hardware in windows, i dont use the macro functionality
you can also remap the mouse in a windows VM
oh wait i dont own the wireless version
:clueless:
Fair! I might have to do it that way then. I'm quite fond of it being able to switch my bindings per game/application cuz I use some really weird bindings in ffxiv :") but I'll just have to work around it and see what I can change around.
should still work in a windows VM for remapping though if it uses a usb dongle
annoying to do but its an option
Yeah, has the slipstream dongle, bazzite picks it up but its just whatever defaults 1-0-=
I think it's got a profile button on the bottom so I can just setup a basic desktop profile and a game profile and use that for now
you should see my bindings in gw2
i use middle mouse to dodge π
and scroll to doubleclick
omgosh :"), I just started using an mmo mouse after like 15k hours in ffxiv so I've basically just made my usual shift/control modifiers on 2/5, then f1-f4 on 3/6/9/12...
I havent fully commited to swapping over
i play kind of a complicated class on gw2 that relies on using the weapon skills (1-5) heal (6), utility (7-9) and elite (0)
along with the class skills (f1-f7) although luckily my clas only goes up to f5
so its like playing a piano on the keyboard while trying to manage the camera π€£
just being able to have the class skills on the mouse along with dodge helps a lot for me
oml :") i feel that, I picked up PLD on ffxiv and between mits and rotation I'm using almost all 32~ keybinds. I really should play some more GW2, I was doing engi iirc.
obviously remapped skills 6-0 to something sensible
i main mesmer in gw2
90% of my playtime is on mesmer
7% on necro
1% on guadian or engi, rest on other classes
mesmer looked so fun but it intimidated me for a first class :NotLikeMiya:
when did you last play?
uhhh Dec 11, 2023
if you like dps role then condi mesmer virtuoso is super easy and long range
use skills, stack bleeds, dont ever use your utility or heal unless needed to (cc or heal)
use f1, f2 and f5 whenever you have 5 blades
I am quite fond of ranged classes, and easy classes :hehe_meru: I might have to try that then
and if you like healing the heal chronomancer is also pretty fun with the rifle we got with soto expansion
chronomancer sounds like a fun class off name alone
people laughed when i said many years ago "if mesmers get a rifle it will either be a melee weapon or a long range healing weapon"
i said this maybe back in uhh
2018 or 2019?
now I wanna play gw2 :NotLikeMiya: but im like mid savage tier in xiv
long range healing rifle sounds fun
are you in EU on gw2
NA :C
bah
thanks anet
:clueless:
 region locks always depressing. XIV is finalllyy getting rid of them soon
the funniest thing is that there is literally 0 reason for the region locks now in gw2
not even for wvw
 depression, hopefully they remove them
ya kinda doubt it
i think they have 2 different entities handling payment processing
unrelated to them
and which one is used depends on the region
oo, rip :/ hopefully not as bad as the xiv processors that randomly lock your account if you use a different browser half the time heh
my friend got banned permanently from gw2 because he had the audacity to buy gems while on vacation in japan
:sigh: guess not jeez
my first time ever trying to pay for my sub in xiv i got locked and had to contact them
VISA went like "huh this looks weird" automated chargeback which got his account perma banned
visa obviously took no responsibility even though they admited to doing the chargeback without even checking first if it was neccessary
:deaded: omfg
and anet did not unban the account because visa lowered their merchant rep because they did a chargeback
so my friend made a new account and just funded it with gem cards instead going forward and speedran the game for 1 year
:woozybaaa: anytime i hear anything about visa/mc its always stupid
he surpassed his old account in value and AP in less than 1 year
his old account was 7 or something years old
whew thats fast
im pretty sure if my xiv account ever got banned id never play it again
yeah the funniest part is that he was in full ascended at like AP 300 or something doing fractal level 100 and raids
and he did better than the people with 20-40k AP :clueless:
talk about getting dunked on
pffffffffffft
:"")
how is GW2's like raids and stuff?
pretty decent, sadly the "public" raid community is pretty toxic because they rely on stuff like https://killproof.me
you need enough kills to have the privilege to raid with them and they are willing to waste so much time just waiting for someone with the right criteria to raid with instead of just going in and having fun or you know, getting the raid done and just kick people who are assholes
meanwhile if i list something i am just going like "show me a killproof of 250 bananas" :clueless: or just some random plant item
:woozybaaa: oml, xiv can get kinda dumb with parsing but its pretty frowned upon so its not tooo bad thankfully. I know with WoW that stuffs just public on your character its so bad
its like applying for a job, how do you get those kills without being able to join and kill it :")
yeah i remember when the toxic community went by AP
oh you need at least 10k ap
me joining with 5k and they accept me
end up finishing the last boss in the dungeon solo in the end because everyone else died at 30% remaining
π€¦
:woozybaaa: :woozybaaa: :woozybaaa:
sounds accurate, the amount of PF's in xiv i'll see with "must be good/xyz parse/whatever" in it and they do terrible is... too high
yeah
if you plan to raid i highly recommend joining one of the raid training guilds, there is plenty
there's a pic my friend sent me about the xiv community, its very accurate :")
only requirement is that you got a raid build and at minimum exotic gear
hold that thought

the perfect "i just press buttons"
pffft i thought he was talking about reaper in ffxiv for a sec being noob friendly and I was gonna say yeah
this is perfect
i sent that build to my friend who is a casual player, he loved it
he was like "wait i can play my favorite class (that i suck at) and be useful?!"
:"") now there's 3 classes I wanna play heck
mukluk as some good videos where he went through 1 build for every role (that existed) for every elite spec and he mains ranger so he has close to 0 experience on the other classes he tried
will look throuhg them :salute: between that and the mesmer builds. engi was kinda neat but idk, it didnt grab me super hard, might be why i never played too much
i didnt enjoy engi myself, too much work for the result until you got mechanist elite spec which fixed a lot of the engi issues
heal mech and dps support mechanist is pretty nice
played that for healing until heal chronomancer became a thing :clueless:
i think mechanist was what i was working towards, but still far back in the story/leveling :NotLikeMiya:
i might do heal chronomancer then either that daredevil or mesmer for dps
before heal chronomancer (with the rifle from soto) i even raided as a heal virtuoso (essentially healing people by splashing mantras at them)
meaning i could only heal by spamming mantras and the healing was bad :clueless: didnt stop me from helping organize doing all the raids with 100% mesmer squad
funny as hell
pfffff, I'll definitely have to give gw2 some more time after this raid tier in xiv calms down a bit, im also quite fond of the like, lack of gearing treadmill it seems to have
oh yeah its the main reason i play gw2
i love xiv and ive put an insane amount of hours into it, but sometimes the gear treadmill gets annoying :deaded:
the same gear i made back in 2016 is still used today
meanwhile I just got done throwing out most of my bis gear from last raid tier :")
sure some new stat sets have been released but i can convert my ascended gear for minimal effort and lose the runes/sigils or i can craft new gear (or old stat set and convert that)
gw2 instead has a fashion treadmill π
new skins on new updates
or you can be a crazy person like me and make legendary armor/weapons and have access to all the stat sets including new ones on day 1 of release
and be able to freely change it for free forever
ooo, xiv like, if you dont care about parse/doing max dmg you can get away with the basic crafted gear. fashion always peak endgame my chara looks so silly in some random free twitch prime gear :")
that sounds kinda nice though, i'll assume its a lot of work to get? :')
oh yeah exotic gear (highest you can buy from the trading post) is perfectly fine in gw2 for all content except fractals (which require ascended for the infusion slots to lower the passive damage you take in there from bosses)
ascended has to be crafted or earned as a reward (or bought from a vendor for the "pity/bad luck" currency)
doesn't sound too bad at least, xivs gearing is really silly :S you get coffers, but if anyone in the party has cleared that week you get half the loot, and if more then 4 cleared you get none. then you have weekly capped currency for the other half
clears are linked to your account in gw2
and you cannot kill steal
if you hit an enemy (bosses require more than 1 hit) you get credit for the kill and get the drop too
the achiles heel of gw2 is that the game is not optimized π
 i know the main pain point i had playing it coming from xiv is the camera, some stuttering but not too bad, and the ui, but it wasnt tooo awful
my biggest linux gripe with gw2 is that blishhud does not work properly in linux (to the point i will call it unusable)
aww damn, i liked using that
yeah
only reason i play gw2 inside a VM with a gpu passed through to the VM
that's my other big worry swapping over, i use a looot of tools for xiv, i know the main mod* launcher is basically the only way to really play xiv in linux
vm is my like, end goal, but single gpu
yeah we cant help with single gpu
we can get you 50% of the way there with the
ujust setup-virtualization
and select enable vfio drivers (and ignore all the messages if you are going to single gpu passthrough)
past enabling the drivers you need to tailor the rest specifically for your system, we cant help with thatoo, i have a pretty old gpu laying around too, but i dont think itll even fit in my case with my current one:woozybaaa:
with 2 gpus (igpu counts if you reserve the dgpu for the VM, meaning linux cant use the dgpu) it will get you 90% of the way there (assuming your hw is passthrough friendly)
the last 10% is setting up the VM and configuring that
mm, i do have an igpu, is it possible to use the dedicated one under linux if the vm is down? or is it just locked to it
the dgpu will be reserved for the VM only
there are ways to dynamically load and unload it but its not something we can realistically support since it is super hacky and prone to failing
fair, so I'd basically want two decent gpu's for that to work well :deaded:
i literally use an rx6600xt and an rtx2070
the 2070 is for the VM
6600xt is for the host
also make sure the motherboard supports bifurcation and lets you split the 2 x16 slots into x8 x8
ivee got an rtx4070ti currently, then an old gtx970 laying around that probably wouldnt work tooo well
(or go crazy like me and get a threadripper :clueless: not recommended )
:") im stuck with a good ol probably killing itself slowly i7-13700k (regret)
hmm
consider this then
next gpu you get is amd
use the nvidia in windows VM
the gtx970 is kinda iffy to pass through, some of them only work well in bios compatibility mode (no actual uefi support, which is required for passthrough)
oo noted. probably a good plan. I was originally planning on just dual-booting when I get a new ssd, so can stick with that until my next gpu upgrade
seeeeems my motherboard cant do bifurcation either, so itll probably be after swapping to an amd cpu/new mobo too
yeah the mobos that can do it are expensive π
and you need to look in the manual if they support x8 x8 as the most common is x8 x4
and i dont recommend using a gpu on x4
seems MSI mightve removed it on their boards in general? or at least the intel boards, from the little bit I just looked up
so itll have to be a much later goal, but still the end goal :deaded:
yeah you need an amd board i think, intel too stingy with the lanes
definitely going amd next cpu :") having a time bomb in my pc doesnt feel great
i can imagine
i had a laptop with a 1050 ti
nvidias support for that felt like a ticking time bomb so i sold it early this year
:") big fair, im slowly but surely moving everything over from intel/nvidia/windows. just a lot of growing pains so far trying to understand everything (well, mostly the linux stuff)
np take it slow there is no rush
took me about a year to fully move to linux back in 2008
:NodIna: been trying on and off for a bit, but bazzite's the first time my laptop hasn't imploded on itself. really liking the atomic model, even if it's got some extra things to learn. mostly a lot of "will this work and if so how" with stuff like my mouse or racing wheel. got basically a big ol' doc listing stuff and slowly working through it.

very! ujust/homebrew/distrobox are the things i need to read about next
ujust is just a collection of scripts from us
thats the tldr for it at least
if you want to see what they do you can do
ujust --choose
I do see like, opentabletdriver in here, and my drawing tablet was one of the things I was worried about
oh speaking of that and vm's, is it possible to pass the igpu to a vm? (or would it be a terrible idea), and do you think that would be enough for photoshop/lightroom? those were two other things kinda sticking me. (though im trying to learn darktable to replace lightroom)
some people have had success with it uh let me find the thread

long thread but we got the igpu working in the vm in the end
ooo, thank you!
you will also need something like this (or a hdmi version) to keep the igpu enabled in windows

ignore the hz on the page, you change change it to whatever using custom edid info in CRU (custom resolution utility)
oo okay, not a bad price either nice
looks like ive got a lot of just trying to set things up and seeing how it works, and a lot of reading ahead
and to find a decent m.2 drive for bazzite
yeah dont buy anything until you verify that the igpu can be passed through by checking if it is in its own iommu group using the utility i linked in the thread
noted! i'll check that when i get bazzite setup on the desktop
for that user the igpu was in group 0 (will be different for you most likely) when he enabled iommu in the bios and also enabled ACS in the bios (if the bios has this option, enable it if the igpu shares a group with other things and then pray this fixes that)
the bios ACS option avoids having to use a kernel hack (which we do not include because it is a hacky workaround) to get better iommu groups
anyways im off now, need to leave the desk
oo okay! thank you again! :) have a good day
you too!
