Help choosing AM5 MATX Motherboard
Hello All,
I'm a Linux noob currently in the process of speccing a new gaming PC, but I'm worried about choosing a motherboard that might have compatibility issues with Bazzite. I've read online that there can be problems with onboard Bluetooth, WiFi, NICs, and audio. While I've seen that you can buy replacements like the Intel NIC WI-FI 6E AX210, I'd ideally like to find something that works out of the box.
I've checked out the following site and found a few motherboards that don't seem to have issues, but I'm unsure what the term "detected" means for some of the components: https://linux-hardware.org/?view=search&name=b650#list
Please let me know if I am overthinking this or if you have any other advice regarding linux compatibility! π

I think you're overthinking it. What mobo are you trying to get?
the biggest issue you will run into is wifi if at all
make sure it is an intel wifi card and youre good. for ethernet/wired they all pretty much work from my 16 years experience in linux
and make sure the gpu is an amd gpu.
if the cpu cooler is just an air cooler then that will also work fine with fan controls from the bios (or just automatic)
AIO water coolers you need to do more research on if they are supported (or controllable through linux if you want to control them directly in linux), even if they are not supported they will still operate in their default mode in linux since it all uses the same connectors as the fans
I think I am too haha! This is the motherboard I am thinking of getting, looks like you can swap out the Wifi adapter if needed: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/A620M%20Pro%20RS%20WiFi/index.asp#Overview - do you think everything else would be okay? Like audio etc?

Thank you for your reply mate, I am going for a AMD Ryzen 5 7600X / Aircooler with a 7900XTX π Have you ever had any issues with Audio etc?
I don't have that card but there have been reported audio issues over HDMI for that card forgot if it's fixed or not or if we are waiting for a kernel release.
Also worth noting there is a performance regression for 7900xtx atm so once kernel 6.11 comes around it will be fixed (I do not have an ETA)
Ah interesting, may I ask what you mean by performance regression? I'll most probably be using onboard audio with a headset - I am assuming something like Realtek ALC897 will be okay within Bazzite?
it should be fine, usb audio is almost always fine
jack is also fine, super rare to run into a board with issues with that
also the performance regression is that the card is barely utilized and also its the same fix for hdmi audio on that card
