regular hem or chainstitch?
Ordered these sears carpenters I've been eyeing on eBay. What's the advantage of a chain stitch hem and should I do it instead of having my regular tailor hem them?

I think the price difference is $15 instead of $10 so not much of a factor
I wouldn't bother chainstitching these. It's a fun little nerdy detail if you want exaggerated roping on the hem but you're still going to get it with wear
For an extra $5 I would probably do it, why not, fun detail. But I wouldn't seek it out just to do it.
Do you think the exaggerated roping goes with the style of the jeans?
I mean it probably does lol
It will but I also don’t think it will be hugely noticeable
Thank you, I'll think about it before I go home haha (when I'm getting them hemmed)
Do want to visit standard & strange again
Oh wait they only hem jeans purchased in store nvm
just for reference this was from the last time you were asking about chainstitching https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1167338855666557020/1167476243680215101
i'd def just go with what's easier. a chainstitch could be cool on an old vintage pair but you'll still get nice aging either way
Just to add, there are plenty of secondhand jeans to be found that have roping at the hem without being chain stitched
The point of a chain stitch is to tell all your friends about how you needed special vintage machines to hem your jeans
