My teacher told me that denticity is the amount of lp that can be donated to central atom by the ligands, then in edta4- why isnt the denticity 10

like in ch3coo- the denticity can be both 1 and 2, so we have 4 ch2coo- here and 2 nitrogen which can donate the lp, so shoudnt the denticity be 4*2(coo- ion)+2(nitrogen lone pair) or is there any factor that the neutral oxygen cant donate the lone pair

The thing is that denticity is amount of lp or pie electron "donated" to central atom not the max amount of lp....as a ligand can't donate all its lone pair or pie electron due to stablity and other factors... nature has decided some things so as Inorganic Chemistry is all natural hence edta4- is indeed hexadentate ligand Am i right @iTeachChem

how can CH3COO- be 2 one of the O is doubly bonded so there is no electron to give
