Black Screen, No Backlit, Joystick RGB On, Fans On, Unresponsive.
I’m reaching out to bring attention to a serious issue affecting the recently released ROG Ally X handheld gaming device. Some users, including myself, are experiencing random and sudden crashes where the screen completely turns off with no backlight. While this happens, the joystick and fan lights stay on, but the device becomes completely unresponsive, forcing a hard reset is the only way by long pressing the power button
This issue occurs:
- Straight out of Cloud Recovery
- After updating the AMD Graphics Driver through Armory Crate, MyASUS, or Windows Updates
- Even after updating everything (MCU, firmware, BIOS, drivers, Windows updates)
- During any gaming session — from high-end games like Elden Ring and Tekken 8 to even simpler games, making the device unreliable for normal use.
- While on Bazzite and Windows.

i would say relax, you have a warranty its ok. Asus will probably push a fix soon
Thank you antheas for making me at ease everytime. You think they could fix this widespread issue with i.e. BIOS firmware? How about your Ally X, have you experienced it?
US customs
Just a question, does the "Modern Standby Assistant" in the Armoury Crate sticks when turn off even when you restart your device or switch to Bazzite like the battery charging limit (80%)?
The reason why I ask because I think this might be the reason for the sudden black screen?
"If your machine exceeds the power setting beyond a set period of time, we will put the system into hibernate mode."
No
It's a separate way to do in linux
It's actually a feature we plan to add soon
This happened to me on a legion go but it only happens on bazzite. Could it be related?
