a>0 so there are 2 cases. Function is non-monotonous, so it must be case 1. Now, from figure, max. and min. must be greater than zero for condition to be satisfied. Or if you'd like to visualize it more write it as (y-k)=x^3-6x^2-15x. Draw a graph of cubic and shift it up by how many units so there is only one root? (This shows that there must be no upper bound on k if k is positive). k<-8 also works in which case both maxima and minima are below axis (shifting graph downwards, in which case there is no lower bound)
