is there such thing as a basic bastard’s handwashing kit
ie, bucket type + size, any particular tools(?)
the building of my first proper punk battlejacket is on the horizon and i’m wondering if there’s anything i Absolutely Need To Know And Own to do it right when it comes to cleaning it all

some specifics (mostly amounts of what to use) will depend on the jacket material
size of the buckets depends on the size of the jacket, you'll want it deep enough to be able to soak the jacket if needed
otherwise my kit is dr bronners, dawn, baking soda, white vinegar, an old toothbrush, and some clean towels
if the metal hardware is rusted then something like barkeep's friend would also be useful (to say nothng of its other applications)
You got a bathtub?
Zeo’s recs are good i concur
I would maybe add this type of oxi clean
BKF my beloved
i appreciate this a lot tysm guys
does bucket material matter at all? like can i just basically pick any particular big plastic bucket or should i be looking for something specific?
Nah you should he fine with whatever
I normally use like a plastic storage container since its bigger and deeper
forgot to mention a pair of dishwashing gloves
for any organic stains, bile soap does wonders
There's yet to be something I can't wash off with it
with oxiclean just be careful that it can fuck up things like leather
but yeah i soak in either a small plastic thing, big rubbermaid tub or my actual sink or bathtub. longer you soak the better but after a certain point it doesn't make a big diff.
if you're using oxiclean you want to make the water relatively warm initially i believe
It’ll dissolve faster but i tend to use it in cold and just give it a bit more time to dissolve and only use a small amount
unless you're cleaning something white it's also good to test oxiclean on a small patch (inside of cuff, back hem) to make sure there's no unexpected color loss/damage to the fabric first
even if it says "safe on colors", some vintage things are goofy
