new linen trousers torn
I got these black ficus trousers not too long ago. Seam ripped open in their 1st wash. Is this salvageable? I've already sent a message on Etsy. This is my 2nd pair bc I liked my first one a lot.

Probably toast. Maybe you can make them into shorts
Wait I really don’t understand, is this not something a tailor could fix?
Looks to me like the fabric ripped before the seam, not the seam. Feel like you'd have to re-do the whole out seam with the way it ripped, no?
I dunno I think I'm with Kyn in that an alterations place should be able to fix this up without too much loss of material! I imagine they're wide leg enough to not matter being taken in a half-inch or so in that area if they effectively dart it back in?
I am sewing illiterate but my first instinct would be to take it to a tailor you trust before replacing :)
I'd probably attempt it myself then darn over it a bit with some embroidery cloth behind for extra strength
Or yeah if you’re bold just send it
haha yeah, also depends on how clean you want the fix to be or if you're happy with a bit of wabi sabi
i have a sweater with a similar tear in a similar spot and the actual repair isn't difficult (for me, ymmv) though i'm embracing the wabi sabi in doing so lol
i think it unraveled at the seam and then frayed a bit more after that. I'll see what my tailor says.
