How do I fix packet loss?
Title is self-explanatory. Never had any problems for over a year, now I constantly teleport all over the screen, shit's unplayable.
Please help:D

Yeah I have that issue to, Iβve just learned to play with it honestly
I think itβs a riot server issue
hey a few questions, what's your isp and what region/what servers do you play on? and what's your country live in?
could you also record a 1min ish vid of you playing death match with all network related stats set to graph
What is an isp? Sorry, im not really good with this typa stuff. I play in frankfurt servers and I live in italy
Oh no never mind lmao in stupid, i use TIM
Also i'll send you in dm the video cuz I can't send links or heavy files
isp is which company you're buying interenet from
yeah, I use TIM i needed a moment to figure it out the translation π π
whats your region?
didnt even give me 2 seconds to ping you
smh
Lombardy (?)
where is that
Italy
do
tracert 162.249.72 . 0
(remove the spaces between the dot) in cmd
then send a sscan you do
ping 162.249.72 . 0 -n 100
(remove the spaces between the dot) in cmd
send ss alsoshow when its done
it took a while
Also I know it unrelated by I love the Yoru pfp
thank youuuu
.
.
Hold on tho it got fucked as i zoomed out
Siiigh
alr now it should be all right I hope you can read it π
oi
hmmm
are you using a wifi extender?
no you aint
erm can you do the same command but replace the ip with
ping 192.168.1. 1 -n 100
nop
btw you just need to show this
I'm not connected to ethernet either tho I have this usb thingy that lets me connect to my wi-fi idk how its called
Idk if that has to do with anything
alr
problem is between your pc and router
How could I fix it?
external wifi adapters sometimes have issues
can you try the same test from another device?
if it still happens then its your router
also
restart your router, do the test instantly after
screenshot
Don't have another device
.
Alright, should I do both of them or just the last one?
the onewhere you pinged your router
this one
aight
oops lyra sori for ping
it's the wireless adapter 100% sure
:theo_cool:
yeah idk why so many ppl have issues with it
I bought mine for 3$
broke the entire usb
reconnected it and it still works fine
read my name you think I care if ppl pingππ
imo get a wifi card
after the reset
yeah it's your router
how many ppl
are connected to your router
@lyra ig I'll do it again then-
me and another person but they're not using anything rn they're sleeping
Ic ic
yeah im guessing your routers wireless is cooked
The only thing rn that I'm actively using is my pc and my phone
sure
shouldn't matter it's a router it can handle multiple ppl
u think it's his router
same computer?
yes
I dunno
do netstat -e
teach me networking <3
I know nothing about networking <3
only things left in my knowledge for computers is some programming languages and networking
HUH
nvm
erm that's good
yesh veri gud
I'll boot up valorant and see if smth changed but it's not like i've never tried resetting my router lmao
yeah no it'll prob go back to being bad soon
ok fair enough
just means your wifi adapter isn't the issue
is your router like
really cheap
No its like
Pretty good
See that's the thing i play other online games just fine it's just Valorant giving me shit
well that really doesn't make sense tbh, the ping is to your router not to Val servers
would like to try some stuff
I do play them on my xbox tho
one moment
omg I get to learn
yes
cmd stoped working for me
finally
@Mr. Dogeman minding pinning the router again but change 100 to 500?
aight
:kit:
@Mr. Dogeman show me an ss when its done
yeah its still going
will go for a while
yeah
@lyra
yeah still there
(ping 192.168.1. 1 -l 1500 -n 100) > "%USERPROFILE%\desktop\ping.txt"
a file called ping.txt will apear when you are done send it to me
and also
delete the space between . and 1
wait i wonjder
yaeh stil automodisn't
192 dot 168 dot 0 dot 1
the default IP address of the router?
For me it is apparently
192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1
depends on the region ig
some countries put out different networking IP protocols
@lyra
is it normal for bro to look like this or did I do smth wrong
π
@Mr. Dogeman try pinging this too oncee
no
why
thats their defult gateway
wdym default gateway?
@lyra there you go
thank you once sec
seems fine to me
there is just one spike of 32ms
other than that, no packets lost between you and the router ( if that's the router IP ofc)
i mean yea pretty okie
why the graph lol
it's cool ngl
Visualization β¨
ye figured
FYI it's not the same for everyone
easier to see
read above
that message
oh so that's why ppl only talk to me on text
.
"common"
@Mr. Dogeman can you do the same command but with this ip? 162.249.72 . 0
also can you do a tracert to it aswell
what's the issue after all though?
the cause of packet loss
I have read the thread but haven't found any conclusive cause
:gr_peepostare:
probably network congestion from ISP which can not be handled on the client's end if that would be the case
look at the first tracert:gr_peepostare:
I was just speculating until you gave me an answer
what is it though?
also which tracert? you've made him run a couple
made him run one
anywho
@Mr. Dogeman
the second hop is the issue ig
has to be the first hop between the home network and the isp ig
that's where packets are mostly lost imo
No clue what that is
this
run that in cmd
but I just ran a game and i had little to no packet loss, if restarting my router every two or three games is the solution i'll honestly take it lmao
pretty much tells the issue tbf
nuh uh lets find the cause
.
has to be between the router and the ISP
Aye aye
@Mr. Dogeman soooooooooo
you want the text file?
yessur
aight i'll do the tracert first
i'm just speculating it's a router issue
it is indeed a router issue
if restarting the router partially solved the issue
then it most definitely has to with the the router
yep
but could not be as stupid as it sounds
anyway let Lyra do her thing I shall
it might be
stalk this
for knowledge
i'd say
still would like the tracert
hmmm second hop again
get a modem and use the wifi router as an access point to wireless connection instead of using the Wifi router as the main router. Use an ethernet connection via ur modem to the PC and then check
i'm pretty this would solve the issue
it's the router
Can't use ethernet, my pc is too far and I can't move the router
hmm fair fair, but unfortunately there isn't much you can do apart from wiring your connection and then testing if the problem still persists
Then restarting the router every two hours it is π
check if your router is on the latest firmware
How do i do that?
open up ur router settings and check for its updates
what router do you use? you might have an app for it to access
or try typing in either
of these IP addresses on the browser to see if it matches ur manufacturer
Just the one TIM provides now i don't remember the exact name
yk the second hop is the isp
right
try typing any one of these on ur browser
:theo_cool:
it's between the router and the isp
also
its the ISP's gateway router
:val_Hampter:
he said restarting the router periodically resulted in lesser packet loss
btw i used this command without the spaces (ping 162.249.72 .0 -l 1500 -n 100) > "%USERPROFILE%\desktop\ping.txt"
so?
and all requests timed out
it's still a modem router
at hop 2 the packet as left your local network and in the hands of your isp
Maybe i did the command wrong idfk
show it the txt file
there are two types of packet losses
inbound and outbound
π π
i'm pretty sure he's having an outbound packet loss
which means packets lost while leaving the client
OH IM SORRY WRONG COMMAND π
OKAY I WAS STARTING TO GET WORRIED LMAO
(ping 162.249.72 .0 -n 50) > "%USERPROFILE%\desktop\ping.txt"
now it will work
π
im aware
it can't necessarily be an issue from the ISP , that's what I was saying. I'm just speculating it's a client router issue
with tracert results given and the partial fix the OP has found out
god dammit my head is hurting π
get some sleep F
I understand ur effort
no like from listening to y'all its like understanding simlish for me π π
are these the latencies you get on valorant while playing?
tracert 8.8.8.8
regardless of the packet loss?
do that
I usually get around 20 ping if that's what you're asking
oh ok
and no spikes even with packet loss
Or maybe yes i dont remember
hmm
@Mr. Dogeman ahem
eh ye im doing it
:Foxy_Heart:
lol he is acknowledging it chill
it's just overwhelming for him to follow through the chats ig
dw lmao its fine
sorry just wanted to make sure as this chat is moving very fast
all good
second hop again boys im starting to get it too π
man it's the router
i'm 95% sure
do 1.1.1.1
now
would that change anything?
curious tbh
if it would be isp they would 100% how to route 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8
so
just making sure ig
request timed out on second hop π
see
it's not an issue with the ISP imo
it's with the router
also if it was the ISP being the issue, then we would have error hops on the 3rd hop
not on the 2nd
it most definitely is the router causing the issue
im guessing a design choice by the network administrator for that hop.
:02Nod:
cuz their connection while pinning etc is completly fine
network admin what?
so that second hop shouldnt be worried about
isp :kaisaShrug:
idts tbh
he clearly stated that the router caused the issue
whilst saying he partially fixed when he restarted the router
imma hop onto some other thread for now, again, I think it's with the router
@Mr. Dogeman can you maybe ping your router again but :theo_cool:
π
aight what is the command again π
(ping 192.168.1. 1 -n 100) > "%USERPROFILE%\desktop\ping.txt"
:val_Hampter:
sorry making you ping so much just wanna be extra sure
@lyra Dw its fine lmao
I have 3 more seasons of 2 broke girls to binge I don't mind writing a command here and there π
LMFAO
real talk
your jitters and ping to both riot and router is fine atm
and i think the hop thats timed out is fine
this makes me worried tho
it randomly gets up to 1-2k ms
and then like now
is complety normal
Yeah
:val_Hampter:
Should I just wait untill I get some major packet loss then?
how often do yo uget packlet loss?
before today like, always
on Valorant
hmmmmmmmmmmmm
I costantly was getting "spikes" of 1-15% packet loss every couple minutes
And like, the game ran mostly fine but it basically locked me out of every entry agent cuz I had the risk of just teleporting onto site and dying π
:theo_cool:
when you get the jitters/ploss
can you run all these commands
holl up
(ping 162.249.72 .0 -n 50) > "%USERPROFILE%\desktop\ping_rito.txt"
(ping 192.168.1. 1 -n 100) > "%USERPROFILE%\desktop\ping_router.txt"
tracert 162.249.72 .0
send files and ss
ez
im still in training fr:val_Hampter:
Dw about it I appreciate all the help:)
Aightt, I'll just send them here and ping ya if it happens again
:val_Hampter:
i still believe its you between your router
and not you between riot
Can't tell you much on that
I'll maybe run a few games and see how it holds up
hell maybe i just needed to restart the router 3 times to make it go away :val_Copium:
hopefully not
if u dont find a full fix go into settings and set netowrk buffering to maximum it might not fully fix the issue but will help, at the cost of a small average ping increase
that won't help with packet loss it still sends the same amount of packets
@Mr. Dogeman updates?
Yooo, it was fine till now and it came back
I'm about to run all the tests
:theo_cool:
@lyra [ping for reply]
I started getting occasional 1% loss like this afternoon but it was barely noticeable it happened rarely, but it kept getting slightly worse
then at one point during a game i crashed for a couple seconds, then started getting 10-15% spikes in like 3 rounds
basically as it was before
sent some instuction in dms
@Mr. Dogeman It seems like the issue is happening between you and your router. The packet loss to Riot and the router match up. Also, whenever your router experiences jitter, it's followed by similar jitter to riot.
did anyone of your familiy members start to use the wifi when you got the spikes etc?
the visualisastion ^
nope
everyone is asleep rn
any idea of what the problem can be?
Hell if I know π
i mean if you want to you can restart your router and then do the command i sent you :catyes:
Aye aye captain
I'll send the result here
:theo_cool:
@lyra [ping for reply]
your connection is still fucked :theo_cool:
do you have another computer you can run the soame command on?
nope
it's already something i put this piece of crap together π
do you have an andriod phone?
or iphone?
Android
install termux from play store
@lyra [ping for reply]
yeah problem is between your pc and router
At this point the only thing is the uhhh
usb thingy i use to connect my pc to wi-fi
probably
and that also explains why i don't have any problems playing on the xbox
:catyes:
so uhh what should i replace it?
soulution: get a wifi card
sum like this? @lyra [ping for reply]
yeah but maybe a name brand
wait
to
win + r and type msinfo32
show ss
there's a lot of stuff
screenshot of what
erm
whats your budget ish?
40 bucks
but the less i spend the better lmao
get sum tp link i suppose
Aiiight i'll see what i can get
If I can get by resetting the wi-fi once a day honestly idc
do research before you buy
Yeah
I'll see what I can do I was saving up for smth
Welp, thanks for all the help anyways I appreciate it a lot :)
im still a lil unsure if im correct im still learning so:kaisaShrug:
π
It's what I was thinking even before asking y'all
by moving it the thing around with its extention cable
well all i know that there is a problem between your computer and router fo sure:theo_cool:
and putting it closer to the router's direction
it got slightly better
:kaisaShrug:
but considering that this house has walls that are so fucking thick uhhh i doubt I can do much better than that
so restarting the router it is for now
:kaisaShrug:
