Check JD lee once. this is there in detail. There are three things that effect pairing. The central idea is pairing energy < splitting = pairing happens splitting energy <pairing = splitting happens Usually CFSE oct > tetra The three things are 1) ligand strength (this is there in ncert) 2) charge on metal (usually pairing energy is lower as charge increases) 3) 4 d 5d (usually pairing energy is lower) you are talking about point 2) here. from data, splitting energy increases significantly (data in jd lee) as charge increases
