enable it on the monitor and then in the settings then hope your monitor does not have a crap freesync implementation (if it starts flickering black then its a bad implementation)
I'm also facing this issue. I'm using gnome and enabled the feature using
gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['variable-refresh-rate']"
, but I can't see the variable refresh rate settings in the Display menu, just the static refresh rate. I'm already using DP for connection, and VRR works on Windows
