...what are you looking for exactly?
90% sure the answer is "uniqlo or muji" but you'll likely get a better answer with more info
Are you looking for one outfit in particular or a wardrobe for the year thats unbranded
^^ this uniqlo and muji are pretty much essential stores for anyone looking for relatively affordable blank clothes
what the fuck is uniqlo or muji
😭😭😭😭
WARDROBE OR OUTFITS
those are both stores which sell a variety of clothes
like i’d say 300 budget for like let’s say 4 outfits?
uniqlo is based in japan with multiple stores in the US that carry blank essentials and a variety of colors
i see
cool, what kind of clothes do you like?
feel free to check #inspiration or #waywt for pics
ong i just like basic shit yknow but i want to dive deeper into how i can get better
bro you guys are actually the best tho lowkey
or ig, or tiktok, etc
do you guys just help people for fun
like damn 😭🙏
basic shit = uniqlo or muji
what do you guys recommend tho
what clothes do you typically wead
or like wearing
wait let me show you what i look like, i cba looking for some so ill just pick the first one
are there already pieces in ur wardrobe that you like color wise that your looking to match? Id say if youre looking for a wardrobe with essentials to go for a color style that fits with your current cycle
t-shirts, hoodies, etc?
what would look good with my skin tone, face whatever
a lot of fashion isnt neccesserily how u look but how u wanna present yourself to other people ykwim
yeahhh
what colors do u feel good in generally?
black definitely
well i don’t know other ones because i haven’t tested others… 💀
we could build from the shoes and go up if you already have shoes u like
it’s just black shirts, black jumpers and black cargos and blue jeans
but lowkey that’s it
yo i feel like im gonna get violated here
it might help if you had an idea of what is a cool outfit for you
but i’ve got the panda nike ones
are u tryna lean more into the jeans? Or possibly any different neutrals
which is dislike
right
yeah
do you guys have any images or do u want me to go do some research
it will be far better if you present things or fits you like
learn more about jeans but like darker types wait like look
def because then you can build off that
but #waywt and #inspiration are both sources of pictures, to say nothing of ig or tiktok
LIKE THIS TYPE OF JEANS LOWKEY
Baggier
you could start working with different washes of jeans and hoodies
like stone wash
play onto textures
yesss
exactly
there you go
if youre comfy in cargos i feel like youd be more comfy in baggier jeans than skinny like they said but also comes down to ur taste
baggy clothes but not too baggy where it’s an emo look
like the right amount
id look into boxy cut shirts and baggy jeans and also not every baggy clothing can be labeled under "emo" if ykwim
uniqlo's wide fit baggy jeans would qualify here
yess
like this it’s jus over the shoes you guys get me?
you would want to try them on in person
i think i get what u mean i just need to dive deeper and explore more
thrifting for oversized clothing would also be an option
i just idk like my vibe, i’m an mma fighter so i just don’t see myself wearing those very baggy clothing
cause it doesn’t suit my character i guess
human beings can have many different attributes to them
do you guys know any shops to go into that are in store cause lowkey most are online no?
uniqlo has stores in the uk
dang okay thank you
uniqlo does have stores in malls and such
is this stuff expensive
btw
theyre pretty affordable honestly
like $20 tees
it falls within your budget
damn you guys are lowkey the best wtf
okay but whay about basic shoes
aside from shoes but that's a separate conversation imo
like those shoes
it doesn’t have labels and stuff
it’s just a good quality one
those look like timbs
what is your budget for a pair of shoes
yeah i think it is
how much do i need for some good ones lowkey
that depends
like rn i got like 600 lowkey
i hate that that is the answer but it is
it depends on ur needs especially the type of shoe
so many people be buying af1s or boots or timbs or slippers or vans / converse
or theres higher end options out there
are timbs worth to
it*
that is a fully subjective question
timbs are a decent quality shoe
it is largely a matter of personal preference though
i want some shoes that can go with a lot of outfits
like i don’t want some shoes just for one specific outfit
i mean that depends on the other stuff you buy
(cause i’m only 17 i ain’t that rich yet 💀)
how do u mean
id most def depends on the colors that he decides to pick up when it comes down to clothes
it*
general rule of thumb is to get shoes that you can get a lot of use out of in your closet that are either neutral or inside of the colorway you decide to go for
if I may
bro lowkey tbh, if it was accepted by society id be wearing suits and shit, but like also this type of style intrigues me a lot
except the hat
i got curly hair so not too fond of it
yeahhhh exactly that’s what i want
question
theres formal events that you could suit up for but i def wouldnt be doing that everyday, but it does look good if u walk into an establishment with a suit for some reason they be treating u like royalty
yes
ask away
when do you actually start school
because some of this stuff is more long-term thinking about you and your needs
we got till next week mo day
monday
enough time??
Monday that's two days away?
or am i cooked
nah
or nine
the one after
9
2 weeks
9 more days
so what do i do
9 days okay
in the next like...two days check for as much inspiration as you can
what does your outfit rotation look like currently if i may ask
also as poor as fast fashion is u might get some inspiration going to a mall
https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1279627012235067534/1279631203984736298 if you like styles like this users like damb or charli or eggtart or smiles might be good inspo
i’d say i go with a black jumper, blue baggy jeans and some pandas for like 2 days, then i’ll go for like eh a white jumper and black cargos then pandas, then the day after a brown jumper and black cargos
lowkey tho
unhappy with my style rn
i hate it
let me see
so youre tryna branch out into more colors / shapes / and such
i’ve tried that but it’s too much clothing idk what to buy
like i’d rather lowkey i figure out what i want then buy it
Obviously not helpful where you’re at but it is acceptable just be that guy
yeah
thats fair id be overwhelmed too
what vibe and aesthetic do u want to give off?
i have no idea 😭
can you guys give me examples
of “vibes”
search
in:waywt from:shoegaze__
or in:waywt from:.damb.
or in:waywt from:smiiles.
or in:waywt from:s char go
or in:waywt from:blouuuu
^^
like i’d rather okay wait i got it
okay thank you 🙏
not too vibrant, where like i’m like i’ll walk into a room and everyone’s like oh his outfits really noticeable, more mysterious type of look but then when you give a proper look it’s like damn it’s actually good
am i waffling chat
idk i’m trying to be better at style ig
part of that is knowing what's out there
and you deciding what looks good and what doesn't and why
vibes can really call for any type of style but you could be looking into streetwear, avant garde, y2k, vintage, etc etc. Doing ur due diligence and researching what you think is cool to you is a super useful referencepoint. Everyones style-evolution really starts with the urge to change things up and then finding what that means for you
fashion is literally self expression
dang i never realised fashion was this deep
it's as deep as you want to make it
i lowkey feel like this is going to be an addiction of mine i always thrive to be the best at everything
yeah see i had that same tendency to want to be successful at things
fashion isn't about being good it's about being yourself
which apps should i download to start with or should i just check out their websites
well
damnnn
check #waywt and #inspiration and Instagram and tiktok and people in real life
the beat way to learn about clothes is to see what people are wearing
grailed is awesome if ur looking for 2nd hand statement pieces
ask questions about what you don't know - the name of an item, who makes it, why they wore something (#waywt is good for that)
then you look up stuff and see what you can do with that
curiosity and learning abt designers and their style language and finding pieces that resonate with you will probably be big
also you're still young
our tastes in clothes develop as we live and learn things about ourselves so you may find your tastes change and that's okay
yeah i realised
i’m the youngest here damn 😭😭😭
im also 17 so trust me we have plenty of time to figure out what style we wanna go for
i’ll have a look thank you!!
you aren't the only teenager here
is there a lot or nah
and also 'learning about yourself' doesn't have a cut off
i feel like fashion is a universal language there isnt like an age to fashion
i started my journey quote on quote when i was 15 and only at 17 have been able to find what really speaks to me
so dont feel rushed
it’s just that lowkey
other people at my age
have like
better taste than me
by 10000000 times
okay this is going to be super crazy to hear i know but
i legit only have face card and body card and that’s it
you don't have to care about what other people are doing
lol
i need fashion
i get you
but it makes me feel more rushed to get into it
i get that, i really do
there are so many people out there who wear absolute bs and then there are people who are actually balls deep in it and both dont care about the other party no matter how prevelant it may seem yk
a lot of people also trend-hop
achieve sonder
as someone who was also young and figuring out what to wear i spent a lot of time and a lot of money buying things that i do not wear anymore
this ^^
bruh stop bricking me
:letsfuckinggo:
def dont make purchases that you feel you need to make to fit into any group or crowd's mindset
so i do think we have a general idea perhaps
thank you guys, giving me life lessons with fashion advice is actually crazy didn’t expect this 😭
yeah it seems like it
take the weekend, stroll around the internet or your town and find cool outfits
ideally with pictures
you will likely find common themes (maybe they all wear baggy pants or white sneakers or hats or whatever)
so should i do some more research then get back to you guys
yes
to add onto this, when you see an outfit you like ask yourself why you like the outfit and what details about it stand out to you and inspire you
its all subjective and finding that is gonna really help you gather the data u need to find a style u like
but once you have an idea of stuff you like, feel free to make another thread asking about 'how do i buy (picture of [x], picture of [y]) for less than $xxx' or something like that
i know why i like stuff because it gives off like dark mysterious type of vibe i feel like it fits more into my personality as im social but no one knows me deeply? does that make sense
also i suggest watching frugal aesthetic he makes funny videos with good fashion advice that helped me understand proportions
ohhh
OKAY got it
frugal aesthetic
lowkey tho guys i want to buy the jeans
i feel like it’s great
lowkey
if you want to buy the jeans then do so
take ur measurements too
uniqlo probably has them
or if you have secondhand shops around check those for levis or something similar
uniqlo okay got i
it
Yeah I wouldn’t go with uniqlo for jeans personally
are secondhand shops good??
Seconding this
won’t they be bad quality
They’re op
(uk)
Ohhhhhh
Yea mb
oh shit yeah
but i forgot
another thing
i’ve currently lost 10 kg ik it’s bad but i’ve had some issues recently and haven’t been to MMA a lot, so i’m bulking again therefore what should i do when i’m buying clothes now… 💀
buy secondhand clothes that fit you now
okay okay
youd probably rather wear clothes that fit now then buy clothes that look goofy and u have to grow into
should i get the original of this or secondhand
honestly might be hard finding that exact pair they're wearing but you can def find those if not cooler secondhand
esp if u want baggy
if you're buying secondhand it will cost less, you just have to check for things like holes or crotch blowout
secondhand is just items being resold that arent retail. Retail is like directly from store
grailed is a secondhand website
got it
he’s my friend that’s why he told me
ohh igu
ohhh
if its within your means id say go for it if you like them
remember u have a $300 budget ur tryna stay in
is 60 worth it
yeah that’s what i’m saying is it rlly worth it
and i gotta get new shoes which is probs a 1/3 of my budget lowkey
id say before u pull the trigger on anything to get a final rendition of your list and your priorities
do u have a lot of shirts that would work with those pants
i need 3-4 outfits for the week
this
A step-by-step guide to starting to dress well for the risk-averse ...
Getting started: the basic advice guides
nope i need a new wardrobe completely..
it basically distilled a lot of what was said in thread into a single essay
do you need a new wardrobe completely or would you like a new wardrobe
right like is there leeway to reuse old pieces that work with your new clothes or is it downhill
NEED tbh 💀
it’s lowkey that’s bad
are ur shirts like torn to bits
downhill i been wearing this shit for like a year and a half 3 years some of them
as in you have no wearable clothing
no but smaller
and not baggy
is that a bad thing
I COULD but they’re shit
yes
you're going to have to live with your currernt clothes for some amount of time while you buy new clothes
like they’re really small they don’t fit my full length of my arm
it is far better to buy new clothes slowly so that you aren't buying stuff you hate and then wasting money
this would be something to get
i don’t rlly go out much other than, running, cage fighting and work (which i just wear a black shirt as i’m a bartender)
is there anything else that actively doesn't fit you
yeah bc when i was transitioning my wardrobe and starting from scratch I had to wear current clothes with some of the new pieces and see what id like to phase into the new wardrobe instead of to nosedive into something im not sure i even like yet
i’d say skinny jeans, vibrant colours
i dislike vibrant colours a lot
except i guess white?
when i say 'fit' i mean physically
like is your ass falling out of ur pants
you are attempting to buy a new wardrobe with a relatively small amount of money
no no 😭😭
accordingly you're gonna need to prioritize things
do i have to increase the budge
budget
probably
almost definitely
but even with that keep in mind to go slow still
400?
but as i do not know your life i cannot say for sure
so circling back
A step-by-step guide to starting to dress well for the risk-averse ...
Getting started: the basic advice guides
oh shit i get you
so i’m taking a risk
i did the main points
not the whole essays unless you want me to read them too
it will help greatly if you read it in full but
i tried out so many different colors and fits and materials realizing what I did and didnt like and i built from there. Dont be afraid to have an "awkward" fashion phase where you arent sure where youre headed
take the weekend
see what clothes you can objectively get away with wearing without hating them
see what other types of clothes and outfits you think are cool and why
make a new thread asking about buying specfic stuff (so instead of 'i need an outfit', 'where can i find wide fit jeans for $xxx'), ideally with pictures
you will certainly figure out your own personal style as you live through life and continue to learn about clothes; that part takes time and you have to accept that it takes time
feel free to keep reading around mfad, as the different types of people and different ways of dressing might serve as inspiration
and just keep an open mind; you might like one thing one day and dislike it the next day and that's okay
you don't have to be 'successful' at fashion you just have to be yourself
clothing and fashion as an expression and not a means to an end opens up an entirely different world. You might have phases and stick with one thing for awhile and then want to move to another, but you'll find a theme whether its material or color or fit in what you typically enjoy and don't enjoy when it comes to clothing. Just as you grow as a person and your interests and ideals shift, your clothes may do the same and thats okay. Find what speaks to you, (if you want to go into designer) what designers speak to you and if you want to go so deeply, (the messages behind their design language and ideals), in general youll eventually partially find your identity in what you wear
you dont have to immediately be a fashion professional. Most of why people even like fashion is because its self expression
