Overwhelmed
I am overwhelmed at just the thought of trying to find the most basic clothes that fit me well. I live in a college town with TJ Maxx, Burlington, Ross, Kohls, Target, and a few thrift stores, and that's about it. I'm 40 minutes away from a bigger city with many more options, but I'd like to avoid that drive if at all possible.
Would it be wise to just travel to a clothing store once a week and try stuff on before I do my grocery shopping?

Learn how to measure your clothes and read size charts provided online by retailers. Realistically this will give you a manageable range 1-2 tagged sizes that you fit. It's a skill like any other, and it takes time and effort to get good at.
I did spend the first half of my day measuring all of my t-shirts and figuring out which measurements I liked and didn't like. idk if my preferences are wrong or will change as I get more into it though. What's the next step?
find stuff you. think looks cool
Collect inspo pics of things you think look cool and reference those when you're shopping
do you have suggestions for where I should browse for this stuff or is it just google and stuff
Check out #inspiration or #waywt here, or Instagram, tiktok, or pinterest. Take it slow, save things you like, read about the brands and designers people are talking about.
ok, thank you!
Also if you find some pics of stuff you like, collate it and people can probably recommend more stuff based off that!
there's a chance your preferences and tastes will in fact change as you get more into it or learn more about yourself, and that's okay
people have the capacity to change with time or experience, and with that may come changes in what we want to wear
the way to deal with that is like the others have said, see what you like or think looks cool, try stuff on, and keep an open mind about things
yeah I'm worried the stuff I see on other people that looks good on them won't necessarily look good on me
only one way to find out 👍
some way to just try stuff on without being constantly preoccupied with trying to find clothes is my goal
hence once a week clothing trip idea
also we tend to be our own worst critics about things, especially appearance
there are days in which i'll go to a store and not bring my wallet
make the buying process as difficult as possible so that you're only there buying clothes
