IOC ( Chemical Bonding)
have a doubt from ioc (chemical bonding), while making the geometry of a compound, if there are lone pairs why do we keep them in equatorial plane. Agar unhe axial plane mein rakhe (yani 1 upar aur 1 neeche) toh repulsion minimum hoga
Why we keep them in equatorial plane??

to close the thread when your doubt is solved. Mention the users who helped you solve the doubt. This will be added to their stats.to minimise repulsion. have done this in detail explaining 90 deg lp lp repulsions vs 120 deg lp lp then similar analysis of lp bp ones in my vsepr videos, can check it out
basically you count number of type of repulsions and decide
but sir 180 repulsion toh sabse kam hoga naa?
btw, this eq plane idea is valid only for sp3d
watch the video :) and/or read jd lee, that is where i made the video from.
ok sir
cos of the option of 120 deg repulsions.
in sp3d2, all angles are 90 deg so it doesnt matter, and hence axial positions for lone pairs is more stable.
