Garments "Inspired By" other designers
Been thinking long and hard the coat attached -- by Engineered Garments for this fall (2024)
This season has a ton of 80s avant garde inspiration (cdg,yohji,armani,cpc for surviving brands that most will be familiar with today)
This particular coat is the "Slanted Jacket". It's more of an eg coat than anything -- it's their "Cutaway Coat" silhouette on one side and the "Baker" silhouette on the other with a slanted hem to ease between them. EG Has done "Andfords" (Andover on one side, Bedford on the other) before. That said, it's clearly riffing on the asymmetry that Rei has done for CDG for ages.
To the point of this thread -- when we get a garment like this that speaks it's own language while referencing others INCREDIBLY heavily, at what point do you decide to go for The Real Thing (in this case, snag a CDG Jacket) versus getting the Other thing (The EG Jacket)?

I think my first consideration is almost always availability (price and just actual availability)

yeah but there's probably only 1 unit of this jacket in small so i need to decide if i'm gonna buy it
or instead trawl trr/y!jp for old comme shit with will probably be too small for me

Like either the pattern for the jacket or the pattern on the jacket
Feels like it wouldn’t have synergy with the usual eg stuff in general
Tons of cdg and Yohji jackets on yjp under 400usd (I hear you though sizing sucks, I’m a bigger person)

Ok I’ll caveat what I’ve said with I think this blazer massively oversized could be cool but I still dont like the print or whatever
i love the print but i don't like the pattern/cut
i love the pattern (it's jacquard, not a print) and love the cutaway shape and the idea of some shirt peeking out

to the point of this thread: will your eg brain poison forgive you if you log in one day and this jacket is sold out in your size? cdg you might just be able to find something but once this is gone you might not see it again
