is 960grid still relevant? if not, what's the alternative?

Hello, All my experience is reading "Head First HTML" and "Head First Web Design" which I appreciate are quite old. They recommend using 960grid. (https://960.gs/). I wonder if 960grid is still relevant or if there are better "frameworks" (Is 960gs a framework :S ?) I just want to create a personal website. Nothing really fancy. Any comment in the right direction will be appreciated. Thanks,

I wouldn't xD 12-16 col grid patterns are a old and imo outdated way of thinking even if a designer used it I would not when translating the design

Honestly it’s not relevant. And I hazard to suggest it never was. The idea of a design grid is based on print…where you know exactly the size what is being printed on. Something that’s missing with web dev

Why Beginning Designers Don't Need to Learn Grids, Type Scales, or ...
Grids in a world where no screen ever stays the same size · The golden ratio is not the answer · Adjusting colors like facebook · Pick-a-number fatigue

Thanks. I will read that article and reconsider to use the 960 grid.

The 960 grid hails from a time when designeres were joining the web without understanding of how the web works. They were taking a system they were used to for print and trying to recreate it on the web. The responsive web was never really about recreating a grid system. With new css features like container queries, minmax, grid and others we have more control than ever before. The web is fluid we are finally at a stage where we can fully embrace the medium of the browser. The web is much more powerful than than print could ever be.

i see a lot of people trying to create a css grid with 12 columns when they only need 3 cols and its always a mess. and also not taking into account how grid/flex collapsing margins work (with the inline-margin gutterson the 960) and how to use gap instead. for designing layouts, like in figma , i am not opposed to a grid like this but for html there are much better flexible and fluid tools
