Peculiar bottom hem on shirt

I recently bought a Noah baseball shirt which has a bottom rounded hem. The stitching is on the very bottom of the hem which I think cause it to curl up on itself. The seam on edges doesn't curl up and seem like they wouldn't hold up to wear. Is this by design?
