Which CPU to get for Purpur+ FTB servers

Right now I'm using an OVH dedicated server with an AMD EPYC 7351P (16c 32t 2.4ghz boosting to 2.9ghz) with 128gb of ram and 2x4tb drives in raid1. This runs a 1.21.1 purpur, 1.20.1 ftb direwolf and satisfactory dedicated server along with my personal web stuff (nextcloud + theloungeIRC) We're still having some lag issues, especially when an op is using /fill. I'm looking at potentially getting a Xeon-E 2136 (6c/12t, 128gb ram and 2x4tb in raid1) for a few more dollary-dos as it seems like it has better single core performance. Am I thinking wrong? We don't really need the cores (unless I decide to move to Folia), but the storage and ram is required.
Pic is htop but ftb isn't running currently

Why are you leaning towards a Xeon and not something like a 5950x
Puppy Zoey (She/They)
because hosting it at home is not an option so it's from a provider

My bad
Puppy Zoey (She/They)
yeah, I'm getting my server from OVH if I could host thelounge/nextcloud on residental comcast I would highly consider it lol all good

Providers have nice cpus ur talking like xeons are all providers got

and OVH isn’t the only provider. There’s other options
Puppy Zoey (She/They)
not for our budget. OVH has EPYCs and Xeons and like a core i7-7770

The Xeon would be a significant upgrade in speed for Minecraft but judging from the prices on the website, it’s incredibly underwhelming. Though you have a huge amount of storage and ram that probably isn’t available with other providers.

You can look at other providers that are in your budget

sure if I want 16gb of ram and 512gb of storage I've checked most the big name ones yeah it'd be so much easier if I didn't need the ram/storage part of it. but just my nextcloud user is sitting at 1tb used 😅

Would u have a better performing server or more ram? More ram doesn’t mean better server. Is a very big misconception

They are running additional things on top of Minecraft

^& did you even read the OP Qarth?

Yes I did, unless ur running 16 servers u dont need to 128gb of ram
Puppy Zoey (She/They)
My nextcloud/web stack uses 16gb

Yes I’ve countd 4 servers, do u have more unlisted? Purpur, and 2 modded, + ur web server

The ram does seem excessive but the storage seems a bigger issue. A terabyte is a lot to transfer and not many Minecraft specific providers offer that large of storage drives.

Yes, I agree, and with most providers u can pay for more storage Without having to spend extra on ram
Puppy Zoey (She/They)
yeah it's why I'm not using one. plus I used to be a sysadmin so I'm fine with baremetal. plus I didn't even want to run these servers to begin with

64gb should be plenty of ram, u can use that money saved to get a better performing server.

Also are you aware of if the server is running on an ssd or hard drive?
Puppy Zoey (She/They)
they're hdds

Yeah, seems like ur budget is being spent in the wrong places Spend less on ram, get ssds, and nicer cpu all for a similar resulting budget
