creating a Minecraft server but whenever I try to start it, it stops at "preparing spawn area: 0%"
so recently I built a home server from part I had laying around, I installed Openjdk 21 headless and installed the Minecraft java server from the Minecraft website, I dedicated 4G to the server but it always stops at )% for the spawn area, I also installed screen, if anyone could help I would really appreciate it.

It says Done
The server's been started, connect to your server with the ip address "localhost"
Ok, I’m a dumbass. But I have another question. I couldn’t join with Minecraft version 1.20.4 but I can with 1.21.1. Is there any way for me to join the server with the 1.20.4 version?

Although careful, someone else here was having issues with ViaVersion with 1.21
Make sure your plugins are updated
@Sunshortshop assuming you’re using paper.
If you’re not using paper you can’t use these plugins, you’d have to use something like viafabricplus or multi connect on your client (fabric)

Download the latest paper 1.21.1 jar and replace the vanilla server jar with the paper jar

It will generate a plugins folder, download https://ci.viaversion.com/job/ViaVersion/922/artifact/build/libs/ViaVersion-5.0.4-SNAPSHOT.jar and https://ci.viaversion.com/view/ViaBackwards/job/ViaBackwards/474/artifact/build/libs/ViaBackwards-5.0.3.jar, put it in the plugins folder and restart the server
