Do air force one colorways work with smart casual style?
Hey ya'll, I need a new daily sneaker and I notice a lot of people wear air force one's, especially in blue. But I tend to associate them with streetwear... do you think this colorway could work for smart casual outfits in the Spring/Summer? I tend to wear more dark academia-esque fits in the Fall/Winter, and was wondering if I could rotate these into that style there too. Thanks!

These are dunks btw
They look like a pretty flexible color way I don’t imagine you’d have too much trouble styling them
I guess it depends on what dark academia means to you but sneaker like this + that aesthetic is kind of a skill check
these dunks are cute and inoffensive
won't stand out too much in an outfit but I still manage to style my brown jordan 1s pretty easily
if they're available for a discount go for it
if not, you might have some nicer options around the price point tbh
I tried dressing them up last year and it kinda looked silly
So dark academia idk
Depends how far down the spectrum you are
These are jordan 1s btw
yeah
different shoe but still a brown nike 80s basketball shoe
this was just to show the pair I have for context :p
oop I didnt read the second line well
Whoops, my bad
What made it not work for you? I know David Tennant can pull off the red high top converse + blue suit in Dr. Who, so I wonder why a dressed up jordan 1's fit wouldn't work
I think this would sorta be DA-lite? Like I can't wear derby shoes + cords + knit sweater turtlenecks in a "every day is record heat" summer, or in any social setting more active than a dinner party... but for these shoes, I was picturing DA color scheme + chinos/pants + button down shirts/sweaters and an overcoat. Not sure what to call that (smart casual?)
I think i just need to find more dressed up dunks inspo, like to the level of a first date or so (in summer/spring)
then yeah these would work
I've said this in the past but any kind of sneaker + tailoring can be challenging to pull off because you need to sell that it's on purpose and not you just wearing the wrong shoes for the formality of the rest of your outfit
here's my effort of pairing aj1s with a suit. the reason I think it works is because the formality of the suit is watered down by the baseball hat and the fact that the suit is oversized
the sneakers aren't doing all of the heavy lifting here
I think sneakers+tailoring definitely leans more ivy than dark academia
Damn that's a sick fit. Where would you wear it though?
To the coffee shop
Ok Ivy's probably the word I was looking for
my narrow imagination didn't consider that. neat
