How well does a i3-6100 perform for a server?
And how does it perform against a raspberry pi 5 for a server?
Both servers get a equal amount of ram (8gb)
They both have SSD storage.
Server 1 is a HP Elitedesk 800 g2
Server 2 is a raspberry pi 5

the servers will be running only performance mods on fabric, and they should be able to deal with giant tnt explosions, with a average of 4-7 players
They are both weak and the i3 is very old. Giant TNT explosions will surely be impossible and the overall performance will probably be bad.
Wouldn’t really recommend either but the i3 would be much better
Runs at a higher clock and about 30-40% faster single core speeds from what I’m reading
I am currently running an i5 4440 that is very similar in terms of single core speed etc to the i3-6100T and it is pretty bad. Would likely perform a little bit better due to newer generation and ssd. But definitely no large tnt explosions.(2 tnt blocks caused the server to hardcore lag for like 7 seconds with 4 people online)
If you are trying to buy a used computer for cheap I would recommend something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/196543593626?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=vPncx0qoQa2&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=c7j1tokarwa&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

HP SLIM 290-P0014 | INTEL CORE I7-8700 3.20GHZ | 256GB | 16GB RAM |...

From my personal research you should atleast look for Intel 8th generation and above. AMD is also good but I can’t really seem to find any used computers for a good price that have AMD.
This is my final message in this giant wall of text, but shop around and look for the highest generation possible. EX: i7-4790 is worse than an i3-8100. Generation > single core performance > clock speed. Seems like your budget is around $100 so at best you are going to find an HP desktop with either a i7 8700 or i7 9700(atleast in USA)

Intel Core i7-6700 3.40GHz Processor CPU(SR2BT)
It is a great choice for those looking for a high-performance CPU. The Socket Type is LGA 1151 and it is of the Core i7 6th Gen. Processor Type. The processor model number is SR2BT and it is sold as a single unit.
i never had a budget - i've always had this elitedesk in my garage
i try to reduce the amount of ewaste in my household anyways
Is the Elitedesk a desktop elitedesk or a small one?
Because there are two elitedesk 800g2 models
The one on the right isn’t upgradable but the one on the left is
But also, no I would not upgrade to this, it would be a significant upgrade for other uses, but it won’t make much difference for a Minecraft server
unfortunately it's the right one
although I don't get how it's not upgradeable unless these mfers soldered it?
i can't use pcs that aren't slim anyways, electricity bill and such
It’s a i3 6100T then which would be soldered
You can definitely run a. Server on it, I’m currently running a server on a worse cpu. Just switch it to Linux, run a paper server and you should be good.
But definitely no explosions
Except for like creepers
And pregenerate the chunks
i have already installed ubuntu, although I am prone to not switch it to paper because of them breaking all my redstone contraptions
Just a low render distance and simulation distance on vanilla then if you don’t want to mess with performance mods.
of course
And I mean like low like 4 chunks if you have like 4-7
My setup is pretty similar and it’s fine with one or two players but when you got 4+ players in different areas it starts lagging hard
we set up a rule that limits the distance players can stay from spawn (it's just some building smp server, not a normal smp)
If you don’t mind spend a little bit of money it might be better to pay for a server host
I think some are only like $6 for decent server
