The CEO I interviewed with today mentioned that I will have to provide reference contacts if they extend offer. I said that I can’t give the contacts of my current J. Can I just give contacts of my friends and they pretend to be my supervisors?

You could try offering performance reviews in lieu of references; worked for me across a couple of offers
