Looking for a new look as a 50 year old male in tech

Looking for a new look. I just turned 50 and while I feel younger, I definitely don't look it. I'm in reasonable shape and can afford nice clothes. But, all I wear are lululemon abc joggers, t-shirts and hoodies. I'm in tech and do a few speaking engagements a year. Any advice on a "look" with wardrobe recommendations?

Are you asking for advice on how to dress for your speaking engagements or more generally?

Oh sorry, yes more generally. I wore Outlier in my 40s but feel like it's too tech bro-ish?

I lost weight so the slim dungarees are loose I guess I've hit a mid life crisis fashion wise

Maybe check out Bonobos. Their tech pants are similar to the ABC pants and some of their other basic stuff is good too. I recommend finding a guideshop to dial in your fit though

do you have any thoughts on people who have good style or outfits that you think are cool?

cool thanks man. What's a "guideshop?"

imo it's a lot easier to figure out what you want to look like before buying stuff

I’m turning 40 in a few months and I’m learning and trying to figure out things myself. If I were you I would probably take a look at certain brands that make well made clothes with interesting designs. Japanese workwear, Scottish/Irish knitwear, Drake’s. Visit a few good specialised local stores and try things on.

Bonobos doesn't do brick-and-mortar stores where you can buy their clothes over the counter. They have guide shops in big cities where you can try their clothes on, but you still have to buy online It's a way of saving warehouse / floor space

(in a pinch check #inspiration or #waywt and see what's out there that you like, then it's a matter of figuring out how to emulate those fits)

that idea of 'traditional' tailoring made modern through pairing with more casual pieces is common in brands like beams+, renacts and aime leon dore Shrimp My Ride on mfad (yokohama_menswear on ig) has a less stuffy take on trad menswear as well

I’ve seen lots of men in their 50-60’s dress like that and it looks good. Just do some research you will figure things out. Your first photo would look good with a nice pair of Orslow fatigues or something similar.

I'm a 49-year-old male in tech lol. My advice is to take it slow, and use the opportunity to think about how you want to express yourself. There isn't a strict dress code, and you have a quite a bit of latitude. I personally often enjoy being a little dressier than the people around me (e.g. loafers, chinos, button-up shirts), or wearing colors and patterns that stand out a bit.
