Best way to host a server for long distance with friends?
I've already got a server set up for lan play but wanted to port forwards for a few of my friends but im worried about the ping (9000+ km distance) and was wondering what the best option is for this situation
I've tried playit.gg but had some ping issues (server will be less than 8 players)

also not looking to spend any money and i do have a seconday pc that it will be hosting it 24/7
You can maybe use a vpn
hm?
yeah where everyone who plays installs the vpn onto their computer and you can easily access the hosting machines mc server
Use TCPShield or setup a proxy with CosmicGuard
They both have amazing routing which should help with ping even if you are far away
May not be perfect but will definitely be better.
will check that out thanks!
any video on how i can set this up?
Do you have a domain?
domain?
Yes
like
play.dimicraft.com
or something like that
no i don't have one
how can i get one?
I suggest porkbun, they're really cheap, really fast DNS register speeds, and supports crypto/card.
But you can go to namecheap or something like that, I do not like namecheap
i see, I've head port forwarding is a way i can host is this safe/viable
Yes its safe if you are running a server that is for friends only, but for public servers you don't want your IP to be accessible to everyone which is where TCPShield or a CosmicGuard proxy helps a lot because it will protect your ip address
I've home hosted before, but now I just pay for a VPS and run it that way
I know you said you don't want to spend money but if you are open to spending MAYBE $10 for a domain for an entire year then I can help you setup everything else that you would need
i just plan on using this for friends only so port forwarding should be aright?
any idea how lag will be for long distance friends
Yes nothing bad will happen from you port forwarding
If you setup TCPShield it will be much better than without, but if you trust your friends enough give them your public ipv4 addres and tell them to open CMD and type this in
ping <yourip> -t
the MS that they get back is the MS they will have to your server, since you are home hosting it and it will be on your network.
dope thanks!
