What does the dress code "Smart" entail
I've recently landed my first ever interview and am not quite sure what I should wear. Their email said the dress code is smart. I was planning to wear an oxford shit a pair of formal trousers and a tie, would this be appropriate ? I live in the UK if that's relevant

It’s extremely nebulous and vague, but what you’re thinking of wearing sounds good
I wouldn’t wear a tie without a blazer/sweater over top though
thanks
I also live in the UK and would wear a similar outfit for a job interview that had this as the dress code. I would lean towards agreeing with Art in that a tie isn't required but it won't look out of place if you did wear one, I saw lots of people wearing ties without jackets/blazers in work places here.
btw i forgot to mention the interview is over teams
Even on teams i'd say still commit to the outfit you have in mind (possibly minus the tie) as it will put you in the right frame of mind for the interview
sounds good thanks
i think ill just keep the tie handy and see how it looks on camera before i start
thanks for the advice
Yeah I would add to what Soup said, shirt & tie is pretty common for what is considered smart / formal office wear here even without a suit jacket. So since the email specified smart dress code for the interview I would just put the tie on - you don't lose anything by doing so, and you don't want there to be a stickler of an interviewer who afterwards is like, "those two applicants were pretty close so we'll dock a point for the guy who couldn't be bothered to put a tie on", you know what I mean
